And this is the man who ‘we’ have chosen to be our public face to the world.
Given the exercise in absolutely mind-bending foot-shooting stupidity that this country is presently committing all its resources too, surely he's perfect
I'm thinking of the Big Lebowski quote to describe the Dude...
Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there.
Imagine a student flat.
Imagine a student coming back from a night out and throwing up down the side of their cooker.
Imagine that the gap between the cooker and the wall is small and makes it hard to get all the sick out.
Imagine the students can't be bothered moving the cooker so just leave it and put up with the smell for a bit.
Imagine months later a landlord doing a deep clean before the next rental, moving the cooker and scraping out all that has accumulated over the years.
See those scrapings, that's Boris Johnston, that is.

Klunk, not that one; its the 6th March issue which was in shops yesterday.

In light of the hit job on Johnson in tomorrows times & his questionable health, I was just saying to my wife that Murdoch wants Johnson out & replaced with Gove (my wife politely humoured me)
then just saw this
https://twitter.com/ThatTimWalker/status/1251588847319814147
johnson never been a fan of detail & hard work
I reckon he will duck out of this crisis happily , claiming brexit as a victory (before it crashes & burns)
even the likes of Andrew Neil & Iain Martin questioning whos in charge
The Heil, Mirror and Metro all seem to have gone all out anti-gov with todays lead headlines.
Daily Star, covering the important issues of the day, leads with 'Lobster saves Lifeboat'
I thought it was ok to lie and make things up provided it got stuff done?
Clearly Boris and his mates are allowed to lie but its not fair when they get questioned? Awww. Poor Boris. Nasty newspapers daring to question his competence rather than simply deifying him.
describing elements of its investigation as "plainly untrue" and "ridiculous"
Wonder how much restraint he had to use to not use the words "fake news"...
Wonder how much restraint he had to use to not use the words “fake news”…
About as much as I have my not saying 'Poundshop Trump'.
Oh, damn....

/blockquote>I have to thank the government for continuing to make this a story and raise its profile.
Perhaps not what they intended?
Anyway, does this all mean the knives are being sharpened?
The real question is why would anyone be surprised by this. Boris's rise to power has been typified by his team him hiding him from anything difficult for fear he'd say or do something stupid - they deliberately kept him out of any situation that would see him tested. It was a successful way for them to run their campaign - with he full support of the media that is now turning on him..... but here we are - this is what their success looks like.
BloJo was always just the frontman. He doesn't really believe in the Brexit project other than a way for him to have a crack at the top job and do his 'Music Hall Churchill' routine for a bit. He is a convenient puppet for the real loons as he can always be cast later as the opportunist who didn't embrace the full project.
Johnson is the equivalent of Von Papen, but who is.......?
Must admit am surprised that Boris hasn’t done Telly recently, I get he’s recuperating but I still find it odd that he’s not given a few pep talks to the people.
He must be very unwell or hiding.
The whole deputy Rab type thing doesn’t smell right.

Johnson was much more unwell than the tories let on. He will be a while recovering yet
But yes - he is completely temperamentally unsuited to crisis leadership
But yes – he is completely temperamentally unsuited to
crisisany kind of meaningful leadership
He's just the frontman.
He must be very unwell or hiding.
Or they are still trying to sober him up.

An optimistic/naive part of me hopes that his own brush with the Covid-reaper might cause him to be a little less cavalier with other people's lives in future. And perhaps even value the NHS just a little more.
While I agree it would be great, and hope this happens too Graham... dream on.
BloJo was always just the frontman.
Traditionally a ‘Front man’ stands at the front. Even if it’s just as a public face while others are pulling the leavers. It’s baffling to chose a frontman that you then have to hide.
Even if it’s just as a public face while others are pulling the leavers.
See what you did there.
Ha!
while others are pulling the leavers.
+1 nicely done

Joris is more of a 'reality show' part-scripted and part-ad-lib'd character actor, the sort of thing you'd expect on Oxford Shores or You're Not Even A D-List Celebrity So Get The F*ck Out Of My House or something. A useful idiot to have around during a somewhat easy to script campaign trail type scenario, now there's an actual job to do with actual crisis and so forth, ball achingly useless, a spare wheel, and a loose cannon at that. Best kept out of the way.
+1 nicely done
what’s the opposite of the Edinburgh Defence?
Edinburgh Deference?
A useful idiot to have around during a somewhat easy to script campaign trail type scenario,
he was hiding (being hidden) on the election campaign trail. He was even hiding during his own leadership campaign
An optimistic/naive part of me hopes that his own brush with the Covid-reaper might cause him to be a little less cavalier with other people’s lives in future. And perhaps even value the NHS just a little more.
He's already promised an austerity-enforced fire sale of public services (at least the profitable or cannot be allowed to fail bits) to the real power behind the Leave vote. He doesn't get to chose.
Edinburgh Deference?
It was an unintended funny.
Is anyone entirely convinced that he actually got C-19 rather than just used it as a smoke screen to hide behind while avoiding doing anything useful/showing himself up/preparing to rise Lazarus like from his death bed?
I can't get it out of my head that it's in fact just another Cummings PR trick.
I can’t get it out of my head that it’s in fact just another Cummings PR trick.
I don't think it is.
From Cummings point of view it has overshadowed him scuttling out of Downing Street like a rat - who remembers that now?*
It has also put the young Hannibal Lecter (aka Raab) front and centre to acclimatise us to him for when BloJo gets the chop when he winces once too often at restrictions on civil liberties on the wake of No Deal later in the year.
*The fanbois and swivel eyed loons will have either forgotten or be glad to be able pretend to have forgotten.

Oh come on now. When he didn't have C19 he was far too busy not bothering to negotiate a trade agreement with the EU and not sorting out the flooding to do anything else, especially seeing as at the same time period he was busy not being told about the airstrike involving our new besties the USA, and Iraq, and also busy telling HS2 to "carry on as you were". These were all important things to not do. And don't forget, the plans for the Definitely Going To Be Built Boris Bridge to Northern Island must be taking up a significant amount of his free time, when he's not building and painting small cardboard models of London buses that is.

I reckon you’ll be getting that US deal in June/July 🙂
(The one they’ve been secretly working on and been wetting their pants to do.)
The EU negotiations a sham, it’s one or ta other which is why they’re not bothering to extend the talks, they’ll whip out the beautiful US deal and not bother with the EU.

I mentioned this on another thread and got shot down!! Lying for political gain is so deeply rooted in this government that it would not surprise me in the slightest.
Comparing Boris' recovery to Jesus' resurrection was almost perfect for me, both the bible and that vile **** are both full of shit.
Lying for political gain is so deeply rooted in this government that it would not surprise me in the slightest.
Get a grip. This is taking conspiracy theories to the level of David Ike. It would require wholesale conspiratorial involvement by the NHS, with the full involvement of a multitude of healthcare professionals. Presumably with no one breaking rank.
Are NHS professionals really that committed to Tory governments that they would take the huge risks of blatantly lying? And for what?
ernies right, johnson is a mendacious liar, terrible PM & all round douchebag, even he wouldnt stoop to that, let alone all the medical staff involved
BJ didn't get Covid.
He is way to patriotic for a forrin virus to dare enter.
Dunkirk spirit and all that would see it straight off.
ernie - well said; too much conspiratorial bollocks.
The bloke behaved like a dick and, unsurprisingly, got ill.
Let's hope this brings about a change in his mindset.
Who was responsible for telling Dumbojo it was a good idea to shake hands with people in hospital?
Please be Domcum please be Domcum,
Get a grip. This is taking conspiracy theories to the level of David Ike.
I don't doubt he had Covid, and was very ill, but I'm sceptical about the exact severity of his illness. The Guardian quoted a couple of medical sources who suggested that the lily may have been gilded a bit. I think it suits him to lie low at present while things get worse and other people catch the direct flak.
If he's too ill to do his job, he should be formally handing over responsibility. The speed of current events are such that we can't wait a few weeks for Johnson to recuperate.
Domcum is exceedingly quiet these days?
He caught it to didn't he?
If he’s too ill to do his job, he should be formally handing over responsibility
Be honest, would you ever, in a million years, see Boris handing over anything, without being made to walk the plank first? He was never any good at any of his jobs in the first place, let alone after getting C19.
Who was responsible for telling Dumbojo it was a good idea to shake hands with people in hospital?
I thought earlier in this very thread we had debunked this story as he was at a hospital that wasn't treating Covid-19 folk?
