Why give up that cash?
For the true BoJo stalwarts an MP’s salary probably doesn feel like that much
Go on now, go. Walk out the door
Just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye?
Did you think I'd crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
Blimey, popped out to marshall a hill climb and came back to all this....
his statement says he is leaving "for now"
for some reason normally rationale and sane people rate him and are still defending him.
I doubt he is gone for good. I hope he is
hes going to end up presenting the side-boob half hour on GBNews
MrsMC, not normally known for an interest in politics, has just said "its a shame he's had to quit for stupid lies and not horrendous policies"

Resigns within hours of Dorries doingthe same? Off to some love shack together clearly.

Whilst they seem to have quite a lot of cash to throw around I doubt they have enough for him outside of a one off or two.
Maybe in a few years time but sadly I reckon they still wont be able to meet how much he will be getting paid for screwing us all.
So on his way out the door he managed to knight JRM and dame Pritti should be some rules about this💩

The honours system is a sham. For every deserving recipient there must be at least five awarded for cronyism.
@klunk not sure why a tweet by the most ultra hardcore conservative since Thatcher should be lorded as amusing.
bit like Hitler being amused by the execution of Mussolini
This tickled me:
Been completely off the grid since 11am - jeez, what a day to be disconnected!
For many reasons it's been an almost perfect day - the only downside has been the disgraceful resignation 'honours' list.
I can't imagine many circumstances when criminal charges against a US president barely get a mention in the news coverage.
Tory implosion incoming!
Shit will be sprayed everywhere - but mainly over tories!
Does this mean the privileges committee enquiry dies as johnson has resigned wef?
I'll continue sticking pins in the tory voodoo doll.
If (Eton College version)
If you can keep your job when all around you
Lies ravaged from what it is you've done;
If intellect and common sense confound you
And if integrity you have but none;
If you can lie and not be tired by lying,
And pretend you act for the public good,
But then leave the people to their dying
And say you did, sadly, all you could:
If you can dream - of nothing more than power;
If you can think - but only of yourself;
If you believe this country's finest hour
Is when the chosen few can gain more wealth;
If you can flout the law with bluff and bluster
And not care whether you are believed,
Or deny with scorn every single blunder
And not care how many you may deceive:
If you can stir up hatred, fear and violence
To create division to suit your ends;
And answer cries for help with silence,
And then laugh about it with your friends:
If you can stretch this country to its limit
Or until it is you've had your fun,
Yours is this land and everything that's in it,
And - as you wished - you'll be PM, Johnson.
Brian Bilston
Does this mean the privileges committee enquiry dies as johnson has resigned wef?
They have pretty much finished.
He had been given it this week and had a couple of weeks to respond and argue against it before it was formally published.
I assume it will get published although there would be no point in the commons voting on whether to carry out the suggested sanction.
Great to see the utter headbangers of the ERG claiming this is an anti-Boris, anti-Brexit ‘remainer elite’ coup 😂
The privileges committee has a Tory majority who are all Brexiteers
They really are utterly insane! They really don’t do self-awareness, do they?
They really are utterly insane! They really don’t do self-awareness, do they?
The alternative is to start taking responsibility for their actions and being members of the self proclaimed party for personal responsibility its far better to blame anyone else.
@klunk not sure why a tweet by the most ultra hardcore conservative since Thatcher should be lorded as amusing.
who the **** is lording it as amusing? it's of interest as there seems to be no love lost in the "old chums" of the Bullingdon Club
Well, it had occurred to me that as my once magnificent phallus in now little more than a hollowed out wreck of duct taped together silicone Anna mince meat.... The cosmos was due a realignment via a epic ***t of an individual suffering a superb and floundering fall from grace.
And so it has come to pass.😁
Rumours are that a few of his other stalwart supporters/useful idiots are about to follow the muppet til the end and resign too
It’s like the final bunker scenes in Downfall.
“I am now being forced out of Parliament by a tiny handful of people”
Why does that sound familiar?
Oh, wait, it’s just like the whining noises from dTrumph. Why isn’t that a surprise?
A nighthood for the man who walked in on a Boris/Carrie interface.
I suppose that could help deal with the trauma
https://twitter.com/sathevoz/status/1667218710141042688?s=46&t=1lK7Dw1b6RqGJyvufO-trQ
Hmmm what’s the current tally for his legal fees defending this £250k+ add this to all the other jollies and the benefits of his recovered from the May’s bin oven ready deal and the fantastic handling of the covid with the vip fast track over existing suppliers.
He’s been a very expensive indulgence and when you also take on board the attack on all our rights a very dangerous person.
He came with a crazy high price tag that’s going to be paid back over a long time.
Still sovereignty can’t put a price on that.
We now just need the PM Who Lasted as Long as a Lettuce to also get booted out ignominiously.
She like a crazy ex that marries your brother so you have a lifetime of her turning up at every family event.
The fart that never goes away, every royal/parliament thing she’ll be dressed up and on the tellybox.
The fart that never goes away, every royal/parliament thing she’ll be dressed up and on the tellybox.
All these grifters are the same. An unwavering belief that they were right all along and that being fired, being removed from office is all a giant conspiracy against them by some all-powerful leftie cabal of snowflakes before their genius could become apparent to the masses.
Next thing you know they're on TV, in the news and in some cases hosting their own show on GB News while moaning about being "cancelled".
Truss is still firmly convinced that her policies were correct, Boris still can't understand how a few little parties and a [s]bit[/s] lot of lying has got him to this point...
Narcissism or stupidity?!
Narcissism or stupidity?!
That old school report on him proved incredibly accurate, didn’t it?
Shame the teachers at Eton don’t run the country rather than the entitled shits they have to teach.
Narcissism or stupidity?!
I think it’s actually worse, he’s got more and further in his life than we would ever achieve, his reality is actually totally different to ours and therein lies the problem.
If people keep rewarding you more money and better jobs all thru your life then surely you must be good at your job or what you do and anyone not doing as well as you well that’s down to them not being as good as you ?
I suspect that Burns will end up being found out
She like a crazy ex that marries your brother so you have a lifetime of her turning up at every family event
Yeah, everyone’s marvelling at the bare-faced, self-serving shamelessness of Boris’s resignation honours list, but I bet Mad Lizzie is about to say ‘hold my beer…’
I bet there are 2 batshit-crazy cronies for every day she was in number 10
Truss is still firmly convinced that her policies were correct, Boris still can’t understand how a few little parties and a bit lot of lying has got him to this point…
Narcissism or stupidity?!
Very much Narcissism, I don't think Truss (like most of them) has many true beliefs other than that a good grift can work. She's seen it up close with Boris. She seems to think she can still make her particular grift stick, she has neither the imagination or strength of personality to do that though.
Of course part of the art is knowing when the jig is up and your latest Grift has come to an end. Boris is at that point now. And I think it's safe to say he learnt a bit from Trump. That is to flounce out shouting loudly about conspiracies and people with "agendas" before you can be escorted out of the building quietly.
Next will come a lack, or a minimum, of cooperation with the COVID inquiry, mirrored with more briefings direct to the sympathetic press about how the process has been subverted by malevolent actors with opaque intentions...
The goal is to repeat the cycle, sew a perception that the existing power structures and governance of the nation are rife with corruption and bad intentions (they may or may not be) and frame himself as the crumpled, right leaning, libertarian saviour of the common man's right to be a bit bigoted, economical with the truth and to show those elites who's really in charge...
I think despite it all he's still probably got his core largely on side, he doesn't need to be in parliament to cosy up to the press (and SM) barons and and get them to start influencing the plebs back his way... I still wouldn't be shocked if we see Boris making a future pitch for his being PM again, this is sadly a 'post truth' world with a short memory.
Rumours are that a few of his other stalwart supporters/useful idiots are about to follow the muppet til the end and resign too
Giving him a choice of safe seats to run in at a bye-election
Ones thing for certain with both Boris and Mad Lizzie us we’ll never be rid of them.
The damage that they’ve done to this country between them and they literally couldn’t give a toss. It’s just all about them
I don’t know if this makes them sociopaths or whether we’re past that and into full blown psychopath territory
That old school report on him proved incredibly accurate, didn’t it?
And Hislop too - I think it was Hislop when asked if he was just a harmless jolly buffoon answered that no, he was a very dangerous man.
The signs were all there, he "fooled" millions, and worse than that even though it's now glaringly obvious a hard core of those millions will refuse to admit it. Not because they don't see it, because culturally they will never admit to being wrong. Right up to doing it all again just to prove how wrong they weren't, given the chance.
When do we get the legal fees and pension back?
Last night on R4 the audience of any questions cheered. The Tory MPs reaction was to claim Boris had been right about everything and the cheers were an example of BBC bias
my once magnificent phallus in now little more than a hollowed out wreck of duct taped together silicone Anna mince meat…
That's quite the image for my morning coffee time. Many thanks.
Giving him a choice of safe seats to run in at a bye-election
I am not sure that he would want to immediately stand in a by-election after resigning but I certainly wouldn't discount the possibility of him returning to parliament in the future.
From his point of view resigning now is quite possibly a shrewd move. Triumphantly returning to parliament in a few years time to represent a safe Tory seat will cast him like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
It is quite likely to boost his image more than sulking on the backbenches for a couple of years. After all Churchill took some time away from parliament before returning to fulfill his solemn destiny. And everyone knows that Churchill was one of the greatest Britons that has ever lived, or at least they have been told.
For balance and basically for a laugh, just read the Daniel Johnson piece (of steaming manure) on the mail website.
Sadly for many this will be their truth
Might this have a bearing on whether he hands over his other phone? This and the Moane case does make you wonder whether even more widespread criminality would be exposed.
No sympathy for him. Got done for breaking the stupid draconian laws that he imposed on the country then lying about it. Giving your brother and a few pals knighthood and trying to give your dad one - utterly shameless.
For balance and basically for a laugh, just read the Daniel Johnson piece (of steaming manure) on the mail website.
Sadly for many this will be their truth
And this is the problem... Jonstain and Dorries (and Trump too) are largely believable....IF you are borderline stupid and your politics is right leaning, especially if you consume them through the lens of a friendly journalist prepared not only report their lies as truth but endorse it too. These stains on society will keep their stranglehold because the good guys (and by that I mean those of left or right persuasion who actually believe in the rule of law, morality and integrity) want to play by the normal rules of law. Basically, beyond assassination I just don't know how western democracies rid themselves of these cockroaches.
the stupid draconian laws that he imposed on the country
Are those the stupid draconian laws which helped to stop the NHS being totally overwhelmed during the pandemic?
Maybe wait for the findings of the COVID-19 inquiry to be released before passing judgement💡
And Hislop too – I think it was Hislop when asked if he was just a harmless jolly buffoon answered that no, he was a very dangerous man
The bloke who saw behind the carefully constructed facade and got the measure of him years ago was Eddie Mair
the stupid draconian laws that he imposed on the country
that were too little too late resulting in an absolutely appalling death toll.
Indeed. By instinct Johnson is of the same mindset as the libertarian headbangers on his backbenches, of which Andrew Brigden is the most extreme example (but has some serious competition on that score)
He certainly indulged them, as he always has, to the detriment of all of us, particularly those who are now dead
the Hislop quote is...
Boris Johnson, people always ask me the same question, they say, 'Is Boris a very very clever man pretending to be an idiot?' And I always say, 'No.'
Another of Johnson's pals, Nigel Adams, has resigned.
How many more?
Just how many rats have jump ship until a GE gets called?
70 odd
What's the betting that he now thinks the real money is to be made setting up his own party or should I say cult, go full Farage
They are all odd.
What’s the betting that he now thinks the real money is to be made setting up his own party or should I say cult, go full Farage
I wouldn’t bet against it. He really is that delusional. He’s more like Trump though. In his own head, not only do the Tory party owe their very existence to him, but all the electorate absolutely love him too
I see Trump is busy rinsing his supporters again to ‘pay for his legal fees’. That kind of grifting is right up Johnson’s street
And so far, there have been more than enough credulous mugs to fund his lifestyle for him. Imagine how much cash he could get in with his own party?
A pretty good summary of the whole farce by Andrew Rawnsley
Boris Johnson scuttles away from his flagrant crimes, like a whingeing guilty schoolboy
He is taking the coward’s way out by quitting the Commons because he calculated that he was going to be sacked from parliament
It would be great for Labour if Johnson did set up a deranged right wing party.
JRM, Dorries, Fabri**** all in one place, splitting the vote.
What’s the betting that he now thinks the real money is to be made setting up his own party or should I say cult, go full Farage
A split of the Tory vote may not be a bad thing....🤔
Presumably Truss will enoble Kamikwasi - and they can celebrate with a big bag of the Peruvian marching powder and a bit of tromboning?
Presumably Truss will enoble Kamikwasi – and they can celebrate with a big bag of the Peruvian marching powder and a bit of tromboning?
🤢🤮
What exactly did they expect when they made him leader?
What exactly did they think was going to happen?
I was going to add ‘just how exactly did they think this would all end?’, but I doubt he’s finished yet
Hopefully, whether through starting another party, or just dividing the rest of them and have them fighting like rats in a sack, the Tory party is getting it’s just reward for inflicting that walking disaster area on the country
Unfortunately for the rest of us, with Brexit and everything else, the damage is already done
What exactly did they expect when they made him leader?
A cheap, substance-free election victory followed by five more years with their snouts in the trough - whatever the consequences for the plebs.
Surprised you needed to ask, actually.
🤷♂️
Unfortunately for the rest of us, with Brexit and everything else, the damage is already done
Would a picture of Jeremy Corbyn smiling with a man known for racist, anti semitic neo nazi rhetoric help?
*Its a good example of how two people in the same photo doesnt always mean theyre obviously in some sort of secret cabal, best I can make out JC was effectively ambushed
Another silver lining is that Paul Dacre doesn't appeared to have got his gong, despite being nominated by Boris. There seem to be a lot of stories about how Rishi has betrayed Johnson in today's Mail, for some reason.
I wouldn’t bet against it. He really is that delusional. He’s more like Trump though. In his own head, not only do the Tory party owe their very existence to him, but all the electorate absolutely love him too
He says it but I doubt he really believes it. Thats all about setting it up for the future triumphant return and putting all the failures onto every else.
I would go with the view that he resigned because he knew the recall threshold would be met (thats beyond question) and he didnt fancy the odds of winning the byelection. Its rather telling how he goes on about he has been forced out by an undemocratic process skipping over the minor detail that ultimately the decision would have been made by his constituents.
Hiding the money he is earning was probably a factor as well.
In terms of setting up a party I would say no chance. Way too much work for not much return.
I wouldn't be surprised if he joined whatever UKIP has morphed into this month. Nice boost to his ego to be the big fish in a small pond.
apparently there are calls for him not to be allowed to stand again as a tory no matter what due to his wrecking tactics with the resignation
He'll be off on a speaking tour of the US to give his backing to whatever populist, bigotry-stirring asshat is in the running for the republican nomination.
Then, if times are tough, it'll be a stint on GBeebies.
Then, probably, fronting whatever 'absolutely not fascist'* party/movement Farage comes up with next.
*Totally fascist, but not allowed to be defined as such because, err, BBC impartiality, err, balance, err, somesuch other doggybollox...
I enjoyed these scathing comments:
He should not be allowed to run for the party again, Lord Heseltine says. “That is Boris’s basic problem,” he writes. “Words are designed to make his audience believe whatever they want to believe. There is no anchor to any discernible truth or sense of integrity.
“To me it is inconceivable that in these circumstances he could stand as a Conservative member of parliament again. It is up to Conservative central office to affirm an official Conservative candidate. No doubt he will now go out into the world and make huge sums of money, writing history as he thinks it was conducted. But it will have little to do with the reality of the mess he left behind.”
Another tory MP has resigned.
https://www.bbc.com/news/65866187
I've never heard of them so they are probably a non entity, but still.. That's what 3 by elections now over the last day or so?
Seems like the rank and file tories are rattled about something.
The haunted Victorian pencil has stated that there will be a Tory civil war if Johnson is not allowed to stand as a Tory candidate.
Please, please, please, bring it on.
I genuinely don’t get why he has so many supporters amongst MPs and especially in the wider party membership. I mean even if they don’t care about what his leadership has done to the country and even if they don’t care about his flagrant disregard of his own laws, surely they must see he has basically blown up his own party? There was an MP for Great Grimsby on PM last night - she started of sounding like a normal Tory then just went in to a rant about how Boris was the hardest working MP she had ever seen and how he had been brought down by the media! I mean it was like she had been brainwashed by the worse kind of Facebook conspiracy theorists. There was not the slightest recognition that her party was disintegrating in real time and that it wasn’t Brexit or migration or the cost of living that was causing it but the actions of a man child.
why do they not see the obvious?
Runs in the Nadine Dorries by election?
Can’t be censored or recalled as that was a previous BoJo?
a bit like administration and a NewCo?
The haunted Victorian pencil has stated
Thats "sir" haunted Victorian pencil. Those sort of statements have earned him a reward.
Its fascinating looking at how they are trying to spin it as a lack of democracy when he has avoided that by dodging the recall byelection.
Runs in the Nadine Dorries by election?
Unlikely. If he is going to go for reelection I would bet on him taking the year out to earn lots without the tedium of having to report it and then just before the election have one of his cult members resign.
That way he can line himself up as the saviour with no blame for the highly likely defeat and also limit the options for Sunak and co to block him getting a seat.
why do they not see the obvious?
Because they are entirely detached from reality
Their ‘otherness’ from us plebs is now total. Westminster is literally like a medieval court. That’s what ‘Man of the People’ Boris turned it into. To be fair, it was almost there when he arrived
It’s a shiny castle on the hill. They live there surrounded by snivelling courtiers telling them exactly what they want to hear
These people haven’t the remotest idea what it’s like to deal with all the recent increases in mortgage payments, let alone what it’s like to live on Universal Credit and be dependent on food banks to eat
This is all just a game to them
Runs in the Nadine Dorries by election?
That's bound to leave a nasty taste in Dorries' mouth, and not for the first time.
Johnson cannot run again without conservative central office approval which it seems he is unlikely to get
He can run as an indy, obviously. But he won't do that because he'd probably lose. Would be funny to have Boris running as an indy in some true blue seat, and Corbyn doing the same in Islington North. I know which one is most likely to win.
Either way, it feels to me like we have a general election incoming in the autumn, or even sooner, if Sunak sees bad economic news arriving before 2024. Would he want to fight in May 2024 after a protracted open civil war in the party, interest rates above 5%, inflation still relatively high, recession, and with the voters still eyeing their heating bills from the previous winter?
Nadine Dorries by election?
Isn't that why she and others have resigned, to give him options of a safe seat somehwhere?
