Hi

We're staying just to the east of Bordeaux this summer

Id like to take the kids kayaking but cant find anything suitable for a day trip, there are a number of websites offering weekly expeditions but nothing shorter.
(My poor french may be an issue here)

If anyone has a link or a rec for a company who will let me and some teens and proto teens paddle for an afternoon then collect us and bring us back up river Id be well pleased 🙂

Also any more "must do's" in the region worthy of a sniff?

cheers

Lots of river based activities on the Dordogne. I just got a list of companies when I googled it.

I like the area very much we had some good family holidays there, they where focused around a Gites with a pool and enjoying the countryside the food and wine. Quite simple stuff.

Rocqamador is worth a visit, rather touristy but worth it.

If you like you can call into Futuroscope on the way back.

Take the kids caving! There was a family with two girls under 10 when we did it in Ardèche, it was great fun and nice to get out of the heat for a while. I enjoyed it much more than I was expecting to.

In my experience most places you go will have a local activity type place that will do kayaking, caving, climbing and maybe go karting, off road buggies or quad bikes. Ask at the camp site/hotel/tourist office.

Arcachon basin is a large estuary, loads of open watersports available there. It's French family heaven so be prepared for August influx.
