My nephews have their birthday coming up and they do like a board game. We played Catan last time we saw them when they were 10. They also bike, rogaine, tramp and do general outdoors stuff so plenty of interests to go off!ย

They loved Pandemic, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, Uno,ย

Anyone with similar aged kids have any suggestions?

Thanks!ย

Fake artist - group pictionary where one person doesn't know what they are drawing and has to pretend they do; whilst those who do know have to draw badly enough to not let the faker work out what to draw.

Confident - where you quote a range for an answer (e.g. how many hours a week does the average user watch Netflix) and you gain points for being correct and more points for being the narrowest correct range etc,ย ย

HeroQuest (if you can catch it on one of the occasional sales).ย

Quacks of Quedlingburg.

Monopoly Cheaters Edition.

ย

All a hit with my one, at least.

As above ticket to ride is very good and labyrinth although it's a lot simpler.

We used to play humans a lot. It's quite a fun game where you control the zombies and the humans are the enemy. Not sure if it still sold but you can definitely get it on eBay

Maybe a classic like Risk? My two also like the Game of Life.

Pretty much any Risk is better than Risk, the original is broken.ย  Conquer Australia, win.

The Game of Life is basically Snakes & Ladders and child abuse.

Downforce - really good F1 game.

Forbidden series, Island/Desert/Sky - co-op games designed by the same bloke who did Pandemic.

Ticket to Ride

Hare and Tortoise - absolute classic. The 1st winner of the Spiel des Jahresย

As a little one, Scout from Oink Games is fantastic imo (be aware there are lots of copies on the internet, if it's cheap it's probably the chinese knockoff) One of those things where the concept is simple but you keep going "oh!" as you figure it out, it made me feel smarter than I am.ย

I really like Splendor, though be aware it is bloody awful for colourblind people "These important and distinct pieces? Why yes they are a reddish brown oblong and a brownish red square". The Marvel version is much more readable and I think it's the exact same game.ย

TBH 12 is a difficult age for this, some 12 year olds will be fine with the beardiest games known to man and some really need a kids game, or short games.

Always love to see this, Kerry Breitenstein came to gencon UK ages back (to play in a ccg) and brought this shonky handmade prototype game they had to so some testing and promo, at the time just about everyone seemed to be working on a game and we were all a bit "yeah, keep dreaming". And that was the original Zombies!!!. Was it good? No, but I think 25 years on it worked out pretty well for them.
