I’ve been wondering that but suspected it would be a waste of time asking

seems paying  not to have adverts and pop ups is also a waste of time

It’s a video?

👏  bravo 🙄

why the need to have a pop up and take up half my screen?

I love a moan as much as anyone, but to be clear are you complaining about the website you pay to support prompting its own content?

I’ve just used the norton link that haloric posted further up this page and it seems to be working for me 👍👍

I admit I hadn’t considered that it may be intentional

Yes, because we pay money not to be shown adverts, whether 3rd party or in house, if I wanted adverts I wouldn't pay a yearly fee.
It's not cricket.

Well that does sound like a pain tbf.

Your blind manufacturer recommendation many years back has been invaluable btw and saved me a fortune, thanks.

It’s a video?

And it keeps popping up when I go back to the main forum page. As in every.****ing.time.

It’s ****ing annoying having to cancel it.

And there was me thinking being a paid up member meant ad free 🤷🏼‍♀️

And the Coronavirus thread apparently has only 5 posts

I hate to sound harsh but it's very very poor.

I wonder what sort of income comes from forum either through Subs or magazine purchases and how much they'd lose from closing the forum etc.

They don't seem to care about the forum as much as the mag so I'm guessing that tells the answer on finances

I just spent a strangely long time getting here, via the ridiculous advert that pops up after clicking chat, then the thing that keeps asking for permission to use cookies at every page change, just to join a thread moaning about it.

There comes a point where there is more stuff to navigate than the content posted, then it all slides off the cliff of over exploited user created content milked for all it was worth.

Frustration vented, 5 mins of life lost, 4 'do you agree with cookies' clicks, lost the enthusiasm to post anything else.

two issues - the forum drives traffic to the website and the forum makes money to support the mag ( although less than previously from Marks answers)

I do believe there is a disconnect between what most visitors want and what STW towers want to do

Me too.  Is the forum a vanity publisher?

And the Coronavirus thread apparently has only 5 posts

According to my first page, there are 33,211…
But I don’t use Chrome, or Android, or Windows.
I do pay a subscription, and I use Brave with DuckDuckGo as my search. And I don’t seem to get any of the issues that so many seem to suffer from, nor have I for what seems like years, even prior to becoming a subscriber, and that was more a guilt-based thing, because I wasn’t seeing the adverts, so I decided to cough up to support the site.
I’m on iOS 15, occasionally using Safari with DuckDuckGo as my search, but mostly I use Brave with DuckDuckGo, or else I use Firefox or Ghostery, but always with DuckDuckGo as my default search. I also use a VPN, and I won’t touch anything to do with Microsoft or Google with a barge-pole. Unless I absolutely have to.
Hope that helps.

Seems to be an issue with the Classifieds too. My ad got moderated yesterday pm, it appeared this morning, I edited a spelling mistake and it disappeared.

Paid for a new boosted ad and there's no sign of it.

Yeah, we ****ing get it Drac - you don't have a single problem, ever.

However, people running standard stuff that works happily on every other website come here and their regular everyday setup shits a brick.

It's a shite forum with serious amount wrong with it.

Excellent. I think some browsers must not be clearing all the cookies for the site to be still having a problem for them.

As a reminder:

Please delete them ALL via the link below for STW, and then report any ongoing issues.

Once you have deleted your STW cookies, you will have to sign in and give consent again.

Here is example steps on how to do this:

If you bothered reading the thread rather than jump in on a personal attack you’ll see I had issues too, luckily like many others it was fixed by deleting a cookie.

Still getting prompted when I open STW if I've not been on for a while.
I've tried deleting cookies AGAIN and going through the privacy settings again. Let's see if that fixes it.
Weird that only this site needs me to delete cookies after accepting/setting privacy settings.

FWIW (probably nothing) I'm finally starting to lose patience with the shit performance of the site and increasing issues when using it.

I've deleted all cookies, saved settings, I subscribe - what else is there that I can do to stop this crap?

Consent: tick this box to opt in for cookies/emails/etc

Legitimate Interest: actually we're going to do it anyway. Untick this box to opt-out

It's a bit of a mess

Use a VPN with a non-EU address. Only if you're happy not to be asked for consent to place cookies though.

The cookies content and legitimate interest unticking is a pain the hoop.

My other iPad I can’t uncheck some boxes and there are ****ing hundreds to go through. Again and again. So I’m not going to use stw on that one anymore.

In fact think I’m going to stop bothering on this one too…

I am still seeing this occasionally on each device, any idea what could be driving it?

The consent handling is as complicated as the Daily Mail's, in making each single advertiser a tick box - IMHO highly unethical given the purpose of the legislation behind it.

Sure nobody would care but it is enough to drive me off this site. Subscription already cancelled with the constant hammering when the issues first started but it doesn't feel anything like sorted.

Interesting times ahead as IAB Europe's (the trade association for the adtech industry) consent popups are proven unlawful. Second bullet point in link very relevant to sites relying on "legitimate interest".
