As we come up to the Christmas break I find myself without a work phone as it's self destructed, and doubt I'll have a replacement before the Christmas break. This is a bit of an issue as I was planning to use it to check emails from time to time. I certainly don't want to be logging in on the laptop.

One option us to temporarily download the UEM client app onto my personal phone over the holiday. But I'm concerned about what this will then enable my work to see.

I have no issues with them being able to log what calls and texts i send, but im not keen on them being able to see the content of any message, either sms or WhatsApp.

Anyone know what info is gathered at the server end? Is it just a basic log of usage, time, numbers etc, or does it include content of any communications I send from my phone (excluding any work related emails obviously).

I realise it's unlikely they will ever check, but I don't want them to have on record details of personal conversations sent from my personal phone and number.

Ta

I don't know modern Blackberry but it very much depends how it's configured with similar systems.

It's unlikely they can see the content of messages but it might enforce security policies on your phone if it thinks it's a work device.

Probably best off checking with your IT department if that's an option.

I have this on my work iPhone and my understanding from my IT guys is that the app is segregated so everything happens within the app itself so outside of the app it doesn't do anything and shouldn't be looking into the rest of your phone at all. this is the benefit of this app in that it is segregated from the rest of your phone and therefore better security for the work email.

I supported a similar system (Airwatch) and we had separate profiles for personal and corporate devices. If someone set it up on their own phone without going through IT first it would default to the corporate profile and put a lot of unwanted security restrictions in place. Admittedly we did have very strict and probably excessive IT policies, but really talk to your IT department first.

We use BB uem. I spoke to the guy that admins it as he happens to sit near me.
He assured me that it does not allow access to you messages in any way.
They can see OS versions and other stuff but definitely not messages etc.

I'd agree with the above advice to speak to your IT folk. There will be a statement for employees who are expected to use BB uem as to what it allows them to see and do.
