PSA - Eurosport Black Friday Deal

Annual subscription for 19.99
https://auth.eurosportplayer.com/create-account?flow=purchase

Seems like a good deal if you're not signed up already. I'll be getting it to watch the spring classics, my wife will probably get more use out of it watching all the horse jumping.

For a year? I must have missed that. I managed to get a month for 99p to watch Paris-roubaix a couple of years back

Eurosport Player isn't in the LG App Store. I could get it via Amazon Prime, but then it's priced at an eye watering £84 pa rather than £20!

OK. In anticipation of four hundred PSA threads coming up in the next week, I think we need a single official thread. So congratulations, this is it.

can we have one thread for MTB stuff and one for lawnmowers, global knives and bad jeans? You know, the really important things?

Where’s the White Friday thread RACISTS!

Every friday is white friday. Why can't we have one friday a year celebrating black fondness for discounted consumer goods without some white friday designation wanting, unchecked privilege having oppressor declaring racism?

If you're looking for a posh radio, JL has the Roberts iStream 3 for £149 (in white only). It'll also recharge any batteries in there, whilst plugged in, unlike the non-internet RD70 version.

I'm going to make a point of spending as little as possible over the next few weeks.
I know we live in a capitalist paradise (sic) but the crass commercialism of black Friday, et al, does make the bile rise even more than normal.

You'll need a bucket or Jerry can but having tried a few options these are probably the best solution to washing your bike where there isn't a wash station or hosepipe available.

Yeah man ✌️ ☮️ 😘

I suppose I just see a lot of overstretched and stressed out people in my job, and this constant push, push, push to buy stuff we don't need, and the environmental impact of rampant over-consumption depresses me a bit.

You guys knock yerselves out though.

I prefer to pay full price for my virtue signalling kits so everyone in the supply chain makes a living wage from them.

I prefer to make my own using locally sourced materials. It helps keep my carbon footprint down as the kits you can buy are shipped from half way across the world.

Currys has Blink XT2 camera kits for almost the best price I've seen, but also with a free Echo Dot and 6 months of Spotify Premium, even with the £75 single-cam-plus-hub kit. Got myself an extra camera to pair with the one in the garage.

The usual Amazon Kindle and Fire details are up. Just got a Fire stick for £20 down from the normal £40. Was an upgrade for my old Gen1 stick that was getting very slow and frustrating. This is a breath of fresh air and I can be even lazier now it has the volume control buttons as well.

I bought a new front light last night, at normal price and because I needed it to ride home safely (currently only have 1 on the go, prefer 2, so if one runs out or fails I'm still lit).

Other planned purchases are .... none.

Last Friday of November I believe

<pedant>The Friday after Thanksgiving, which is the last Thursday in November. Black Friday could therefore be the first Friday in December</pedant>

The things you learn when you find yourself working on a demand and capacity project for a payments function within a building society...

I'm hoping for a good Xbox One s / Forza Horizan 4 bundle deal. Game.co.uk had black friday start today, but consoles aren't 'released' until Thursday evening

<pedant>The Friday after Thanksgiving, which is the last Thursday in November. Black Friday could therefore be the first Friday in December</pedant>

[Double pedant] not since 1939. Thanksgiving was moved from the last to the penultimate Thursday in '39 by Roosevelt as it would have been the 30th which was felt to be too late as it shrank the Christmas shopping period too much. In 41 they decided that was silly as some years it fell too early so in '41 they made it the 4th Thursday in November so the calendar that year didn't change but the reason it fell on the same date did.
As such black Friday can't currently fall later than the 29th of November as it does this year (and not earlier than the 23rd)[/double pedant]

If you have kids and like shooting them, then get some of these:

https://www.hawkin.com/x-shot-chaos-orbit-ball-blaster

Outrageously good deal for a better-than-nerf competitor nerf gun. It's not for the little kids though. Ideal for the 40 year old kids

Aye, those look like the same ones I have (a mate of mine runs kids' nerf war parties and he uses the same chinese knockoffs, by the thousand- they're not quite as good as the real thing but they're damn close, and they're safe)

Check out nfstrike if you want to go down the rabbit hole 🙂 Or outofdarts.

(this link is purely for the caption: A GOOD BALL IS NOT AFRAID TO BE ENLARGED. A noble spirit embiggens even the smallest balls!)

Ah, Black Friday - that retail con.
The investigation by Which? is limited in scope but correct and, I believe, applicable to the wider retail market.
Sure, there will always be some items at lower price on Black Friday/Cyber Monday than at other times but, in the main, it's an opportunity for retailers to shift any/all of the following - slow sellers, old stock, over stock, 'special purchases' and general tat - and still make a profit.
Manufacturers don't have full order books for the full year so large retailers place bulk orders at knock down prices to fill holes in order books; that is one source of black friday 'offers'.

Amazon Fire Kids 8 @ £85 a good price? Our ancient iPad battery is shot and our 4 year old is the only one who uses it (for CBeebies playtime island).

Yes. It’s a bit more than the 7 for a snip at £29.99 but I think you’re getting a better bigger screen etc so worth it IMO

Is it still acceptable to call it black Friday and can Jungle Drums be discounted 🙂

Well that was disappointing.
Had an eye on a Ribble CGR Sl in 105 flavour and waited for it to drop a little from its £1699 regular price. Everything else (that i havent been monitoring) on the site seems to have dropped 3-4 hundred quid.
The CGR has dropped a tidy £250, bargain or so it seems. Except the retail price mysteriously increased moments before the reduction to £1849 from the price above. Now the Black Friday price is £1599 after the reduction.
No better than an on one sale:(

Not quite the bargain you are led to believe then....

Ask them where and when the item was on sale for the higher price (is it 28 days) in order for that price to be legally allowed to be marked as being at a sale price and whether they would be willing to sell it at the price you want...

I got quite a few things in the sales - but they have been quite particular and specific things I have wanted for, in some cases, years* and I have been following the prices for a long time and know when they are an actual reduction.

A couple of more generic things I was interested in (pair of trainers and an electric toothbrush) just seemed like a load of crap and doing some searches had been cheaper elsewhere before etc so I didn't bother.

*having been a student then being on a short term contract I couldn't splash the cash, but just got a permanent work contract
