Blackbird-ish sized birds, black and white, swooping and darting quite low to the ground- reminded me at first of big bats! I think sort of fringed wing tips. Really distinctive song, like an electronic device almost. 3 of them yesterday late afternoon on Bridge-end Pasture near Ladybower.
Any ideas?
Baby robin.
Ducks, definitely ducks.
Magpies? They make a noise like a demented tin-opener.
Lapwings - easy as soon as you said 'electronic device' call!
I'd also go with a lapwing - very bat-like flight, looks a bit like some shaking a flannel.
Lapwing it is, thanks bird nerds! 😉
The electronic device-like call goes "peeeeeeee-wit".
Hence another name for the lapwing is peewit or green plover.

or, according to an Orcadian farmer I met 'flappy dishcloths'
