Hi all,

I’ve only just replaced my Bronson that some nice people decided to steal from me way back in February.

I stupidly wasn’t insured for that bike and obviously don’t want to make the same mistake again.

Any recommendations for insurance companies?

Cheers.

New bike.

Find out what it will cost to add it to your home insurance policy, but check policy limits and rules about where it's stored, how it's locked etc.

Had a great claims experience with Aviva earlier this year.

I found my house insurance people wouldn't cover my bike due to its value. Personally when it comes to bike insurance I feel like Laka is the only option. https://laka.co/gb

I just went with laka for my bomb track hook. though its worth a try to see how it goes. no tie in and you can chuck it in if it doesn't work for you. be interested to see how it works out.

I went through Bikmo, they're part of hiscox, so decent enough at doing stuff like this, was a half decent price for my bikes, had a look at others but their Ts and Cs were very constrictive, ranging from where and how it was stored and locked, to how long it could be away from the house before coverage ended (over 24 hours seems like a standard for some!).

I've gone Laka personally

Check them out on their website, https://laka.co.uk/ their model is very different to usual. They are incentivised to pay out, as opposed to wriggle out like a normal insurance company. Essentially they make their profit from adding 20% to every claim. Not from premiums. (They don't have a premium, as such)... The cost of the total of every claim from the previous month gets divided between every laka member (up to your cap, which I believe has never been hit)

So say your cap is £30 (it will already be more competitive than others like Bikmo etc), if there are less claims than average last month, you'd pay less, eg £21. Height of summer and winter you get near your cap, otherwise it's a fair bit lower.

If you use this link we both get £25 credit (which is a no brainer - and thanks if you do)

Edited: Also (and I know them personally having done some commissioned work for them in the past where I met and interviewed real customers of theirs - anyway) they're a pretty awesome bunch and genuinely want to help. So a real world example: Alicia Speake (cyclist for Team LDN) was on a spanish training camp with a friend. They were knocked off (spanish roundabouts...) on day one. She had laka, friend had no insurance. Alicia rang the company, and they bank transferred her £200 to get hire cover sorted for the remained of the holiday, and had replaced her bike within a week for a brand new one. They also have things like 'get you back riding' packs, where if you have an injury eg collarbone that means you can't ride outdoors for a couple of months, they'll loan a wahoo kickr out to you and give you a zwift subscription, among a couple other small things I believe.

So yeah, they're pretty f*ing awesome. I'm a fully paying customer.
