I'm just about to purchase my first home and the insurance on offer from the mortgage provider has a £500 limit for bicycle cover.

I was wondering which insurance companies would be more accomodating with expensive bikes. I have an Orange 5 and a 223 that would cost me more than £500 to replace!

Any help appreciated.

Everyone will mention M&S. They quoted me £400 a year for contents only in a 2 bed flat in the fields - ouch.

I have just changed to M+S. Countrywide renewal was almost £1k for a year and bikes had to be listed. When I rang them they said they could do it for £399 which was still £50 more than M+S with all the extras (acidental cover, away from home cover, etc.)

£349 for unlimited contents and buildings cover, 3 bed 1850's house in a less than nice bit of Cheltenham. Any bikes under £4k (ie all of ours!) are covered automatically.

To temper the M&S enthusiasm, we were insured with them for a hefty premium. My wife rang up to renew and was told that they had no record of our policy. As this was a conversation about paying them more and not making a claim I am sceptical that the conversation in which we demanded that they give us money to replace some stolen objects would have gone very smoothly. 😕

Any idea if that's £4k per bike or £4k total for bikes?

Bigdummy - thats scary.

MrsFlash - dont laugh at me, I'm no laughing matter 😀 Wouldnt mind but the total contents they had to cover came to less than 8K :S

M&S are more expensive than the competition, but less expensive than cheap house insurance + separate bike cover. They paid out without too much fuss when Mrs R's bike was nicked last year.

Just got an online quote of £300 from M&S. Thanks to all posters so far.

Any other options?
