Just watched Cool Hand Luke.

Haven't seen it in a few years. I remember it being good, but seriously...

I kinda really like Papillion but compared to the book It so inferior I couldn't say It was the best film ever. I really like City of God and Life is beautifull , but for a feel good movie Plains , trains and automobiles is Ace.

A modern classic, and completely subjective, but The Big Lebowski for me. Brilliant.

I've just bought Papillon on the back of seeing the film (yes, I know), but (the film) isn't as good as Cool Hand Luke if we're talking about heart rending depictions of what it means to never, ever be broken. There is nothing sadder than the inevitability of one good man being beaten by a corrupt, complacent society.

Shawshank, good, but not that good.

Shaun of the Dead: really? Good film, but not a life questioning work of crushing beauty.

Obviously it's personal but I thought lebowski was rubbish

Fight club or memento for me. Both very clever films. YMMV.

Hitler. Worse. Than.

+ so many 1's

Needs a few watches, you spend the first time trying to understand the point of everything but by the 2nd time you just go with the flow and it's sheer brilliance and majesty is revealed.

"Old Joy" is a sad old man's film that may make you sad, or happy in a sad way. It's probably not the best film ever, but it's better than Hitler.

I like The Departed, it's a good film, but surely you're not saying it's the best film in over a century of cinema?

Bit of a cliche but Godfather Part II easily beats all these suggestions IMO.

Planet of the Apes (the original one) is a total classic though.

Big Lebowski is enjoyable in the way all those Coen brothers knockabout caper style films are but it's not anything amazing. People think it's cool to say you love it though. 😉

No you're right Samuri it's utter crap but it's cool to pretend it's great.

Schindlers list is hard to beat, if a
little depressing i think its a film everybody should see.

Others are Pulp Fiction, Star wars a new hope and Scarface (which i must have seen 200 times!)

speed... that bus in that film deserved an Oscar for it, was easily the best leading role actor that year, practically carried the rest of the cast on it own!. sorry for the rant but the injustice of it all still annoys me.

I watched the big lebowski when my mate pulled out a DVD and said "watch this" at that point I had never heard of it or the Cohen brothers. So yeah my opinion of saying "that was the best film ever" was obviously biased by thinking I would look cool 😉

Plus I got a copy in the £2 tesco bargain bin, so must be really cool.

Completely out of sync with all my other favourite films, but Moulin Rouge.

Cool hand luke has been my favourite for years. Mrs cd doesn't get it. But Paul Newman is a real mans man anyway.
It's a wonderful life isn't far behind.
Best film of last 10 years is probably Toy Story 3.

The best films ever made are as follows:

The Big Lebowski
Apocalypse Now
Withnail and I
Alien
Blazing Saddles

You can dispute this if you like, but there isn't much point, as you'd just be wrong

Brazil, Was introduced to this around 10 years agon and watched ita few times since at first i didnt get it and though it was a waste of time but as I grew up its shear brilliance became present tome.

If you havn't seen it or heard of it you should.

Clock work orange is brilliant as well but only if you know the story behind why and how the book was written, Stanley kubrick did an excalent job of it once the writer had come round to the idea.

Both films way ahead of there time and deserve to be seen as classics
