Got a phone locked to Orange, want to use a Vodafone SIM, tried it and it doesn't work.
Best place to unlock - dodgy market trader or somewhere online?
search the phone model online and you should find the unlock code on a forum somewhere. Thats basically all market traders do and charge you for it.
I did it simply with the wifes phone and worked a treat
There are often decent links on the money saving expert forum for free unlocks.
If it's Orange, you may have more difficulty, depending on the phone. I know certainly some of the older Nokia phones were done in specific Orange versions, which weren't unlockable.
If it's already beyond the 18month or 2year minimum contract, then phone up Orange and demand them to give you the unlock code. I think they have no choice?
What phone?
A lot of modern ones you need special cables and things, so dodgy phone shop is the way. Some can be unlocked for free still though.
Be a bit careful about online codes - some of them can brick your phone if you get a bad one.
