What is the BEST mince pie recipe? I dont want the old shop bought taste but something really special. Any ideas would be very appreciated!
Cheers
too late, have to have made the filling last year (or at least in October) and leave to prove.. HTH 🙂
I made a load last year for the first time with proper suet. I may still have sweet mince tucked away.
.. think Anne-Marie's recipe is out of one of the original Delia books, pretty sure of that. /Not/ Nigella's 🙂
Oh, and be sure to label them properly in the freezer. My mum once served up mince pies and custard, trouble was it was, ah, mince meat pies. Euugh.
I use this one:

the pastry is quite biscuity and matched with a good boozy filling you will be on to a winner.
This recipe is very good if you are starting out.
hohoho
i use shop bought mincemeat (aldi)
but, my recipe is an old Mrs. Beaton one.
450grm (1lb) plain flour, 200g butter, 100g lard, get to breadcrumbs, then add orange zest from abut 1.5 orange and orange juice to bind.
chill, then use as normal, incredibly short.
for the filling, 2 spoonfuls of mince meat, 1 spoonful of sweetened cream cheese on top of that.
thank me later.
