no, but you missed this:

Maybe that should be a new thread then as it's 'a bit off topic'.

I mean, anyone can look up a nice lookng 2 million quid house, lol!

It's not in the spirit of the competition.

THE GRANDEST/GROSSEST HOUSE WITHIN 5 MILES OF WHERE YOU LIVE… 🙂

All of these expensive houses simply prove that money absolutely does not buy taste, most of them are horrific!

This is what £315k buys you in Sunderland https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/140879771

And this is currently the most expensive house in the area at only £2m. It has some interesting decor

Part of me reacted "only £45milion?"

A lot of people must make the jump from a ~£50k terraced house up north to a ~£500k "nicer than average, but not by a massive amount" house down south. And then look at all the big £5million* houses and think "well it's another factor of 10x but I can comprehend that the boss' boss' boss probably lives in one", so it's only one order of magnitude removed from comprehendible reality to live next door to Charlie in London.

*especially in London where £5million can buy you a flat (Penthouse, in the City, overlooking the Thames, but it's still 1 floor and leasehold)

71 properties between £300 000 and £325 000 within 5 miles of me   That encompasses most of the city of Edinburgh ( many offers over which means they will probably go for more).  Not much I would live in..    Mainly tenement flats 2 or 3 bed in ok bits one or two bed in nice bits.  A few ex council houses - all small and a few tiny modern flats pretending to have bedrooms  ( one had a "bedroom" 3.8m x 2. m)

Nothing I would swap my flat in leith for which is worth a similar amount as nothing available would give me any advantages

Cash buyer only in leafy Staines UPON THAMES (and don't forget it) https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/131690258#/?channel=RES_BUY "in need of modernisation", but still, three bedrooms! There are no properties in my location at that price. A few 1 and 2 bedroom flats in Sluff too.

There is nothing within 5 miles of here within the 315K budget sorry. However, if you have a spare 1.5 million down the back of the sofa this place is literall just across the valley from me. Lots of "interesting" history too (Google Eric Gill if you don't know who he is)...
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/136843205#/?channel=RES_BUY

Also has great (really great) MTB from the door including what we call Monastary Steps (clue is in the location) as featured in all the UK  MTB mags over the years, including STW.

EDIT: Worth watching the Youtube virtual tour to see what you can buy around here for the price of a 3 bed terrace in central London

I think Rightmove is broken. Chose the two highest price brackets within five miles of where I am. This includes Alderley Edge and Prestbury. It came up with nothing!

This Sulhampstead bungalow turned up.

I'd live there if I didn't have a family. It's a prime "knock it down and build a mansion" plot.

Seven years since I moved to the Area I still think Bridge of Allan / Stirling / Dunblane is the dogs.
Look past the old decor, and enjoy top draw riding from the door plus train to Edinburgh and Glasgow. And posh cafe's if that's your thing and a fantastic chippy.

@anagallis_arvensisyou must live very close to me.  I too choose Peach's castle!

There's a few farms hitting £5-6m around here but nothing as stately as some of the previous submissions

A bit strange, but what you get for the cash is spot on. Nice riding nearby, great area, good schools. It'd need outbuildings to be any good for me though.
5 bedroom detached house for sale in Orchard Avenue, Rowlands Gill, NE39 (rightmove.co.uk)

There's also this, should you wish to live in what appears to be a former CIU.

I'm well under an hour from the centre of Göteborg. And you'd weep if you could see what's within 10km of me...

Though did spot this gem, bathroom with an outside door.Bathroom

Slim pickings out this way. I know a place just around the corner is for sale for 1.x MKr (about 100k UKP), but that only has summer water and is a tiny, freshly renovated summer cabin more than anything else.

This place ( https://www.hemnet.se/bostad/villa-5rum-svista-uppsala-kommun-balinge-svista-17-20549051) is a little over budget (not much though) and seems nice, but it is literally the only other place for sale round here. Loads of apartments in Uppsala town, some small cabins in the country, not much else.

For the same money you could have this place ( https://www.hemnet.se/bostad/gard-4rum-huddunge-heby-kommun-okersbo-101-20789975). It's further north and about 30km west, but it's cheap, huge and has 11 ha of land. You could spend the money you saved on th other place on renovating the water and bathroom.

@mert You should see what there is for sale as you head more towards Dalarna and north. I saw a place with 35ha land, three bedrooms, a lake and hunting rights for 3.25Kr a couple of years ago. That was up near Luleå though, so not really within commuting distance of town.

and the expansive views (and noise) of the M3. I think If I had that much money to spend I would hang on for a nicer location

£900,000 will get you a 4 bed with 2ha of land, river frontage (house well above any non biblical flood) within easy reach (ride from door) of Bringewood.

I chose this house for three main reasons,

1. It's in a beautiful tiny little hamlet of houses (as seen in the Rightmove pics) that I often walk through with Bert.

2. It's in Rawtenstall (officially one of the best places to live in the NW.

3. The Pigeon (drinking) club is just round the corner
