Inspired by the 'Strange House Design' thread and the perceptions of what is good value...I thought it might be interesting to see what the reality is like in different parts of the UK.
So, with the price point set in funkermasterp's thread at £315,000 shall we report back on what's in our patch? Perhaps use Rightmove, add your postcode and select the '+ 5 miles' filter (so no location/privacy concerns)
I'll offer up this terrace in Kinver (great area for biking)

Drive, shed thing out back for bikes, nice area...

You gonna lend me the extra ten grand? 😂
£315,000 can't find anything...

One bed. Not even sure it's a bedroom TBH.
Does it have windows...who knows!
It is whymsical though!

Right move is in £25k increments.

That'll be a 1 bed apartment around here:

Handily close to the triangle for a convenience store/takeaway, close to meadowbank park and Dorking centre too. Busy road though. But then you have all that the Surrey hills has to offer on your doorstep!
Best I could find. Pretty shocking how little £315,000 will get you.

"the prestigious Kensington Road in Reading"
no onward chain
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/86660055#/?channel=RES_BUY
I can't figure out what's prestigious about it. It's just off Oxford Road / Wes Reading which is why they're being specific and not just saying what suburb/area it is.
No onward chain, was the previous occupant murdered?
That'll get you a 4 bed detached with garage and garden around here.
Loads of choice - some 'better' houses, i.e. bigger, not a sterile box, etc. within search radius for less money but not in areas I'd choose to live in. Hence this:

Characterless and packed into a typical-for-that-time estate. Detached 4 bed, 3 bath, garage, 2-car driveway. Decent enough area. Decor all liveable. Walkable to town centre and train station (direct trains to Glasgow/Edinburgh/Stirling <30mins). Local biking more suited to gravel but 25mins drive to Stirling/Bridge of Allan for the Ochils/Dumyat, <1hr to Comrie, 1hr-ish to Dunkeld, <1hr to Tweed Valley. 10mins walk along canal path to the Kelpies or 15mins in the other direction to Falkirk Wheel.

Upper ground floor?
In other words it's got a car park underneath it so it's only the car park that floods rather than the flat.
One bed flat for 310k. Probably the only one at that price point round here worth looking at. Service charge is quite spicy!

Only 75% of the size of @funkmasterp's mansion, but it does have real grass and a car charging point. Not much riding nearby but not far from some bridleways, the canal towpath, and @kayak23's favourite bridge.

I used my Mum's address in SE London. Unsurprisingly, £325,000 will only just stretch to a 1-bed studio apartment somewhere out the arse end of Peckham... 😳
Quick search gave me this..needs a bit of modernising in places, but not too shabby...

Aye. But Falkirk.
😉
It's Doncaster, take your pick! Here's one from one of the villages around.

I'm struggling to find anything I'd actually want to live in! Loads around me for that sort of money but very uninspiring estate boxes!
As I’m antisocial and prefer isolation I’d have this cottage 25 miles away up at Clatteringshaws nr New Galloway
Although it’s never it’s gonna happen as I’ve lived in the same council/now HA bungalow in kirkcudbright for 30yrs, I dunno how folk can afford to buy on a normal wage, even when I was working there was no way I could afford to buy
Basically the same as the house that prompted this thread:
https://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/65495009/
(Nothing else really around that price point in Dunblane, it is either much smaller and £100k less or over budget or two terraces at the end of our road with outrageous monthly maintenance fees so they keep falling through).
Think this is about as good as you'll get round here, close to the (currently shut) Aston Hill and Wendover Woods

This is less than 5 miles away from me in wales

3 bed semi new build
But as I’m antisocial and prefer isolation I’d have this cottage 25 miles away up at Clatteringshaws nr New Galloway
I always thought that place would be idea for a campsite....
Within 5 mins ride of Pitfichie trails (used for SDA, SES and various other races over the years)
https://www.aspc.co.uk/search/property/420462/Bents-Farmhouse/Alford/
4 bedrooms, looks in a good state, decent garden.
I always thought that place would be idea for a campsite….
Midge’s though, and anyway……what’s the point of isolation if you fill it up with noisy, messy folk 😉
Some minor (yikes) updating required. The only other option less than 325 needs you to build the house first.

Edit, oops 4 bed filter was on
Glossop, this'd do okay. Peak Park on the doorstep. Good road riding. And 30 minutes or so into Manchester Piccadilly by train:

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/140940839#/
And yes I know it's £10K over, I can't be arsed with scrolling though Right Move interminably.
Job done, half-way between the Inners and the Golfie trails:
Or a bit more left-field, a spit from the Gala Hill & Ladhope trails:
6 bed... with garderners cottage

Plus 15k left over...
100 metres from us, £65k under budget (they will accept £250k, maybe less).
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/142725173#/?channel=RES_BUY
2 doors up from us, a nice 3 bed at £150k.
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/141655028#/?channel=RES_BUY
Need an extra £65k but you do get 2 bedrooms.

3 bed, detached, garage, gardens, access riding from the door North pennines, 25 minutes to Keswick
Lovely historic village.
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/142840994#/?channel=RES_BUY
And well under budget at £285k
This is what I found in Bristol - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/142882172#/?channel=RES_BUY - but is in quite a disadvantaged estate. Limiting the search area to a mile from my house came up with a big fat zero.

It's good that the servants would have somewhere to live too. Often overlooked, that one.
It's been a while since I looked around south Pembs...you don't get as much as you used to. I'm sure with a bit of patience something older and nicer could be available.
Found a nice secluded cottage for £310k, I’d happily live here
Or this House in the same area as above for less than £300k , I l did all the damp proof work and new joists/floors in this house 20 odd years ago .
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/141010220
Quite a sweet little cottage just around the corner from me. Two nice pubs on doorstep and at the foot of the Downs.
Shocking thing is that was more like £100-120k when I moved down here twenty odd years ago.
