...or "A Strangely Isolated Place" or "Far Away Trains" both by Ulrich Schnauss.
You bastards! Do you realise how much this is about to cost me on iTunes?! 😉
Chemical brothers - exit planet dust. With Beth Orton. Whats not to like? Saw them loads of times at paradise factory when they were still the Dust Brothers. Happy days! : D
A toss up between Select Ambient Works and Entroducing.
LFO!
Oxygene + 1. A pioneering album and one I still listen to regularly.
And for those of a 'certain age' how about the Street Sounds and Electro albums. Electro 3 and 5 are the best. And the first 2 House Sound of Chicago albums! Without which, most of the stuff mentioned would never have been made
Im having to make do with Digestives. The wrong type of biscuit for this evening!!
The KLF - The White Room How could I forget!!!
+1 for the streetsounds electro albums..
Ladytron - Light and Magic
WAY too many good Electronic Albums, but here's some stand outs for various reasons...
-Bladerunner Soundtrack - Vangelis... Most influential Film Soundtrack of all time? Possibly...
-Daft Punk - Homework... Pop/House/Electro/Disco/Synth-tastic fusion that brought House music to the mainstream and won!
-Goldie - Inner City Life... The guy who pretty much created D&B's finest moment. The fact as a producer he kinda slipped into the ether almost after this shouldn't take away how ground breaking it was.
-Roni Size & Reprazent - New Forms... Won the Mercury Music Prize in 1997, when almost nobody had still heard of D&B! Nuff said...
-Thriller - Michael Jackson... Do I need say any more? The man, the legend, produced by the greatest producer of all time, Quincy Jones.
There are tonnes more obviously, but those stand out for me right now...
Nice slection mboy. Im a big Jackson and Quincy Jones fan.
IMHO one of their best moments
Seventeen Seconds - The Cure.
A masterpiece.
got to go dig out leftism now!
For you bobbyg81... Herbie Hancock Jamming on his Fairlight with Quincy Jones in the studio
😀
Mboy, I'm sure you don't need reminding...but the Goldie album was called Timeless - the first 20 odd minutes was Inner City Life. 8)
Thanks Mboy. Never seen that before! Great stuff!
Quincy Jones is a genius! Billy Jean is the best bass line ever recorded.
And while we're on about genius. How about New Order? Everything on Substance is better than anything else recorded in the 80's.
Oh.... And Primal Scream - Exterminator
Some impeccable taste displayed on this thread.
Not expected from a bunch of overweight, balding IT consultants!!!! 😀
Nothing in the last 15 years has challenged Leftism as my 'If I could only ever keep one album what would it be?' choice, but I think FSOL Lifeforms deserves a mention.
Mboy, I'm sure you don't need reminding...but the Goldie album was called Timeless - the first 20 odd minutes was Inner City Life.
Durrrrrr, slip of the tongue (fingers?) on my part... Didn't have my iTunes library to hand when I posted it and could only think of the name of the first track! 😳
Quincy Jones is a genius! Billy Jean is the best bass line ever recorded.
He is, and he has some of the most influential albums of all time to his name yet never played a note himself! Brilliant at piecing everything together though...
As for Billie Jean best bassline, it's certainly up there... Was researching influential basslines the other day when I came across the following article online...
http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/the-40-greatest-synth-sounds-of-all-time-ever-306114/40
Check out the 40 best synth sounds of all time there... I'm a little surprised by the newness of the number 1 (though not its effectiveness, I remember it coming out, it pretty much gave birth to the "Electro House" sound!) as usually oldies win at this kinda thing, not surprised by number 2 though... Moroder's bassline for Donna Summer!!! WOW!
Shades of Rhythm - Sound of Eden is worth a mention too
A few albums spring to mind, but if I had to choose one to listen to over and over again Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem would win out. Honorable mentions to Daft Punk, Leftfield and Roni Sizee
great electronic albums hmmm mine are all quite mainstream. guess they get mainstream by being great
- portishead - dummy
- leftfield - leftism
- fatboy slim - you've come a long way baby
anything by chemical brothers, underworld or daft punk
oooh actually my fave is:
LTJ Bukem - logical progression
I'm surprised Tangerine Dream (Phaedra)
and Ashra (Blackouts)
have been overlooked.
Sounds of the 70s
Leftfield - Leftism
Dj Shadow - endtroducing (Best electronic album is not going to be awarded to brainfreeze!)
Opiou - Slurp and Giggle
Opiou - Slurp and Giggle
and maybe Opiou - Slurp and Giggle. Buy it,plug yer lugbuds in and try it out on the bike. He's going to be famous soon, you know.
First that springs to mind is Orbital - Yellow album - cos its got Belfast and Chime on it!
It was known as the Green Album.....
Mine are .
Orbital - Brown Album
KLF - Chill Out
Left field - Leftism
Massive Attactk. - Mezzanine
All great albums
Too many to mention, however the one that sprung immediately to mind....
Leftfield - Leftism
Global communications. Layo and bushwaka, low life. Jam and spoon, tripomatic fairytales.swayzak, himawari and Ian pooley , meridian.
Leftfield, FSOL, Orbital, The Orb, DJ Shadow, Underworld and others all very credible shouts, but how about Network Records' Biorhythms?
There's some great albums, listed above( and some dross)
I'll back Leftism, KLF and Underworld. Dub No was my personal fav particularly 'Dirty Epic'.
I'll also give you Eat Static-Implant.
Brian Eno - Apollo
Plastikman- Sheet One
Bjork - Vespertine
Man Machine - Kraftwerk
Leftism - Leftfield
Second toughest of the infants - Underworld
Honourable mentions go to:
Post - Bjork
Timeless - Goldie
Vanishing Point - Primal Scream
Ps Yunkie's makes a good point : Shpongle!! Their songs are epic mind storms that can dissolve you from the inside like an effervescent tablet especially on a handfull of shrooms 🙂
Electro Glide in Blue - Apollo 440
(Although not exclusively electronic, at least not live, I reckon it still counts).
Black Secret Technology
Two that are constantly with me wherever I am:
Perfecto Fluoro - Mixed by Paul Oakenfold
Darkdancer - Les Rhythmes Digitales
Did I mention I'm seeing Leftfield at Brixton Academy next month?
Come on!
Hat-tip to STW.......good taste in music. Boards of Canada, The Campfire Headphase always makes an appearance in our kitchen after a long lairy night with mates.....just around 3am, you love it. No better way to let the dawn break than some lovely mellow electronica.
The BBC had some great programmes on the radio a few weeks ago, story of Kraftwerk. Its scary (and brilliant) how much of modern music you can hear in those albums. Almost 40yrs since Autobahn.
Can't disagree with a lot of what's up there, but even though it's done with tapes rather than electronics : My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. Amazing album, even more so considering when and how it was made.
Best? Not so sure, but Melody A.M. by Royksopp is a damn fine album.
I thought Mylo - Destroy Rock and Roll was an incredible dance album. He put it together on a Mac in his parents house in Skye. Why hasnt he done anything else since 2004?
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
Or if you're allowed compilations R & S presents: In Order to Dance
Very close runners up:
FSOL - Lifeforms
Hardkiss - Delusions of Granduer
I'm gonna throw in Tosca - Suzuki
Drexciya - Neptunes Lair
Galaxy 2 Galaxy -Galaxy 2 Galaxy
david Holmes - Lets Get Killed
Carl Craig - Landcruising
^^^^^^^^^^^^
BorardinBob
Very, very good choices.
Can I add 'interstellar fugitives vols 1 & 2' by underground resistance AND 'programmed' by innezone orchestra? Quality, quality tunes.
