MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Hi all,
I know there are a few people on here who are into their "detailing"...
Mrs fadda has just acquired a very pretty mx5, and I'm tasked with keeping it spruced. The hood will benefit from a decent clean and I'm sure washing up liquid is not the best product for this. So - what recommendations have you?
I'm looking for good cleaning and probably reproofing as well.
Thanks in advance as always...
clean it with washing up liquid first.
then with autogylm. then reproof.
it will never ever be as nice as it was though. best thing is to hoover it
Even better than a vacuum cleaner is a carpet shampoo machine with an extender pipe and a moving bristle head. Cleans and scrubs and the a reproofing.
Okay, that is quite a specific tool but it came with the carpet shampoo machine i bought for the house and it worked really well turning a faded and stained hood back into an almost new looking hood.
What material is it?
Mines vinyl so I just use autoglym tyre/trim restorer (posh back to black). Comes up well and super water repellent.
Is there a product that will restore the plastic windows? I can live with the scratches but they're slightly hazey.
Nothing in the Toni & Guy range that you have handy?
I use autoglym convertible soft top clean and protect on our mx5, very good product
On our MX5, I just drive with the roof down all year.... Problem solved.
Shampoo (car or human) generally recommended on the fora. I found a Karcher worked well.
Proofing products not always suitable - on my Smart they cause the cotton to shrink, and aren't needed because there is a rubber layer.
Autoglym Cleaner then Proofer seems to work ok for me, the rain justs beads and runs off.
^scotroutes, after all these years still no one's come up with a new mx5 joke, tell me, are Skoda's still shite?
I used to use the Autoglym cleaner & proofer on our TT. Made it really nice job of it.
Thanks everyone - it's a cloyh/canvas roof, and the window is glass, so no worries there.
I think I'll get the autoglym stuff as recommended, and see how it goes...
