Drac. That's not a boiler. It's a hot water cylinder. Still, wouldn't be funny even if it was.

I understand that these policies are not known for offering value for money.

EDIT: If I may elaborate...an ex BG guy told me they were told to replace boilers etc as much as possible to generate work.

I'd prefer to save my money and rely on a decent independent engineer. Npower offered me £9pcm recently, I've paid £90 in 5 years.

I also thought they only cover newish boilers.

I'd have thought it would be cheaper to find an independent boiler servicing chap and just pay for parts if anything goes...

It all depends on the boiler as to whether it's worth covering it or not.

Homeserve did a great job for me sending a local engineer with a van full of parts on the 23rd December. This was provided through a home emergency benefit of an insurance policy.

That said boilers seem simpler than is often thought and an occasional service(clean) from a local engineer will often put you on their books meaning you'll get it fixed at a reasonable cost should it fail unexpectedly.

If you pay Britsh Gas £200 a year to insure your boiler and you run it for 15 years, you've spent £3000; that's quite a lot of call out fees from a plumber. Given that BG probably pay £300 for an Ideal or similar pish, you can see where they make their money!
