Talking of great voices Martina Topley Bird has just released a compilation of stripped down versions of tracks off her last few albums. "Some Place Simple" its called. Her voice is really to the fore and man, it's goosebumps! Track 'Lying' is great.
She's the one who sang on Tricky's first album btw.
Just checked out the Martina Topley Bird CD...she has an amazing voice which really shines through with the stripped back production.
...added to basket!
Have seen her live CountZero, and would agree. Also loved the first album but the new one just left me cold. Another one from this year I've played a lot is Nedry - Condors, particularly [url=
& Pears
I suppose I'm going to have to say Immersion by Pendulum, even though it's not very good, since it seems it's the only album I've bought this year. That's never right.
The 65DOS album is probably my album of the year, I just haven't heard it yet because I forgot it was out. But it'll be amazing I'm sure 😉
M.I.A.'s 'Maya' needs to be added. Got it yesterday and it's a work of art.
+1 for tempertrap. Sweet disposition is brilliant.
Can I have 2 best albums?
You can have as many as you like sweetness. (although it's not my thread)
Bought Massive Attack - Heligoland for a fiver in HMV's sale after it was mentioned on here. It's ok, a bit maudlin. But I was stunned to hear Martina T-B singing on 3 tracks after I'd only just been listening to her "..Simple" album and "Quixote". Quite a coincidence.
Laura Marling - I speak because I can
Joanna Newsom - Have one on me
Georgia Anne Muldrow - Ocotea (oh my the jazzy weirdness)
Madlib has an album out a month this year! they have all been awesome
top few albums this year
scuba- triangulation
guillaume & the coutu dumont- breaking the fourth wall
efdemin- chicago
one of these would be my top album so far.
Just grabbed some tracks off the Scuba album, cheers for that.
No idea if ti's the "best" so far, but after seeing the band at Ronnies back in Feb., I bought...

... and it's fab. Can we still say "fab"?
It was actually realeased in 2009, but I only just found out about it - so for me the album of the year so far is Annie - Don't Stop.
Why isn't she a megastar yet?
I have gone a bit poppy lately though I must admit. Even considered buying the new Kylie album due to Stuart Price being the producer.
Only just found this thread.
My fave album so far is prob Darwin Deez
And they are hilarious live- caught them at latitiude- geeky dancing between songs- genius
Oh, and if you can, go see Crystal Castle live...it's an...experience
Also had the misfortune of hearing this tuneless load of toss at Latitude as well.
I gather she got groped while crowd surfing, punched the guy in the face and then stormed off.
so yes, an "experience"
Alice is great. 🙂
not really had anything that's bowled me over. Eels End times & Gorillaz have been ok.
Underwhelmed by Holy F@@k and Broken Social Scene
