Our 2005 Berlingo 2.0 HDI has had a coolant leak for a couple of years, initially very slight, but now worse.
I've got by with topping up when the dash warning light comes on.
I think I've found the leak as coolant is collecting to the nearside of the engine, I've found the liquid and some dried residue too. It looks like it's in and around the thermostat sensor area which Google says can be a cause (1.6 also has a bleed screw here which can leak, don't know if mine does).
If I'm correct in my diagnosis, is this an easy fix for someone competent with bikes, but who doesn't work on cars?
Any differential diagnosis?
Any links to "how to" info appreciated.
Any links to parts required?
Any advice?
Thank you.
(Can't answer your question in full, but will hopefully help)
I'm fairly certain that PSA diesels are very similar to Ford diesels (some sort of partnership/agreement between manufacturers?).
If that's the case, my Ford had similar to you - a slow coolant leak that was hard to trace, that over the course of a couple of years got worse. We finally pin pointed it to the thermostat - the housing had cracked apparently.
I didn't fancy stripping parts out for access access or draining the system, so got my mechanic to do it while it was in for its MOT 😊
