Awesome blokey cat, sort of dog like at times - he fetched sticks
Also a brutal top dog that asserted himself over the rest of the local cats. Fun friendly, demanding and LOUD so f LOUD. Rehomed now (we went to Oz) and much better now he has a cat flap. He was also long and could open doors when he wanted to.

Absolute tart.

Our vet says they're seeing a lot of cats injured in fights with Bengals - apparently they like to have a large 'home' area and are very aggresive.

One had a fish out of our pond and was also having a go at our Guinea Pigs when they were in their run the other day.

Vet said they are closer to 'wild' cats than your average British Moggy.

Best cats in the world.

^ that is kinda the point in them. Most will be 4th or 5th generation away from an Asian Leopard Cat (1st and 2nd generation are classed as wild animals)

We have a female that is now 1 year old, she is tiny and we were worried she would bet bullied by the 3 cats and labrador next door. We need not have worried, she is like a mini tiger, an absolute lunatic of a cat. Very gentle with the kids but has kicked the dog next doors arse despite being tiny, absolutely fearless.. Kills loads of mice and climbs up everything and anything. Had a cat or 2 most of my life but im my experience they are the coolest cats ever.

Had our first free of this very forum sadly lost her to a car RIP Lilly
Then went onto get another
A female (marble) house name Fish. Amazing cats and as said quite dog like fetch carry etc. Can go from being very clever to daft as a brush and is now making her self known with all the othe local cats ! But the range and volume of noise it can create is unreal !

Would love a Savannah or a Bengal but I already have a fleet of cats, and Maine Coons take some feeding...

Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming. Any suggestions for treats, etc. or other advice.

It started as a kitten for my daughter but I am won over just from our visits to see her. This will be our first cat but everything you have said about the breed are the reasons why we went for a Bengal.

As mentioned already I will add some pictures of Sienna once we have picked her up.

Used to breed Siamese years ago and thought all the stories about bengals were just hype. We now have 5 moggies, one of them is 1/2 Bengal.

He's a bl**dy liability!

Uses next doors roof as a look-out, its a 2 storey detached house and he climbs the guttering to get there.

Has decimated the local bird life 🙁 and ripped the new fascia and guttering off the corner of another neighbours house to get at the bats in their attic.

Is as loud as f***!

Brilliant BRILLIANT cat. Soppiest lump we've ever owned! 😀

Mines 6 now and has about 4 lives left. He is a liveable rouge, I have 2 other rescue cats and he is very much in charge. He is a big cat, and can be a handful. When I was between homes I had to stay at my mum and dads, my cat Valentino would sit ontop of the boiler and jump off onto guests, attack anyone entering the house. He plays rough, I buy him dog toys as cat toys don't last long. He bullies my sisters Labradors when they visit and my mates staffie. Most embarrassing moment when he was playing with something in the garden, I looked to see what it was and upon holding it up realising it was a black thong and turning round to see my neighbour had her washing out and he had pulled stuff off the line, it wouldn't be too bad if she hadn't come outside at the exact time I was lifting her thong into the air. He's a nutter but we love him.

We've had 2 (now sadly one) Bengal Mainecoon crosses and my sister has a bengal - amazing cats - except when they start hunting - we were being delivered on average 10 rabbits a week, and they had to jump onto a 6ft wall to get in the window!

As well as someones budgie, ducks, Koi Carp the list goes on!

Love them...have fun 🙂

So would you recommend them as Pigeon control?

We've got 2 BSH cats and the woman next door keeps feeding the bloody Pigeons and our two just sit there and watch.

We've got a Maine Coon x kitten that looks like she might be up to the job but failing that it sounds like a Bengal might be on the list for number 4 😀

Edit, not a Bengal obviously but any excuse for cat pictures

Your Mainecoon should be up for the job - a friend has one, albeit bloody huge one(paws are the same size as coke can tops...) and it is up for the job, it lives down in Corwall and doesn't back down to badgers and I have witnessed it pull bats out the air. Scary hunter.

Two Bengal-Ragdoll crosses here...... Not an accident, bred like that on purpose!!

[img] [/img]

Now 14 months old. They are great; into everything, climb onto the house roof (in fact, they will climb anything), play in water, fetch thrown toys, square up to passing dogs, 'chatter' to you. They follow me everywhere; this can be a pain; at 8 months old I didn't realise that they had stalked me almost all the way to the local pub... I found them waiting outside just after I left the pub!

They are almost inseparable and love being near people.

Super cats

We were told tha our cat Tia was 1/2 bengal when we got her but she's way too small , it was suggested by the vet that size wise shes more like an Egyptian mau and has similar markings (spots). Very similar traits to a Bengal but small and extremely fast , all I know is she's absolutely bonkers and very pushy if she wants fussing.

@wwaswas. Did I say he'd got the bats? No. Have I gone and repaired the roof making it safe for the bats to continue to roost and making it impossible for the exit/entrance to be damaged again? Yes. . . .
your conclusion jumping is more impressive than the feline leaps described here.. 😉

Incidentally,

Have you Bengal owners all checked with your local council to see if they insist on a licence for them?

Here is Sienna a month ago (I had to add this as I couldn't wait to till Friday to show her off)
Although I guess she will have grown a bit by now. Her brother is in the background.

echo *most* of what is said above

picked up Tilly as a rescue kitten at he start of the year, very intelligent cat, will bring back her ball when thrown - and drop it at my feet if she wants to play and if she gets bored of that will drop her ball at the top of the stairs and chase it down, repeatedly, knows that when the grill is turned on that means toast, and when there's toast that means butter, she will kill for a bit of butter, very very vocal, will frequently shout at me from the garden, and wake me up for breakfast, will eat anything, can be incredibly naughty but responds well to training

haven't had any issues with bullying other cats, in fact she's a bit of a wuss, and no problems with dead wildlife, just the odd dead rat

likes to 'help'

This has been a very informative thread, I had no idea that Bengal cats were so prone to terrorising and injuring/killing other domesticated animals and wildlife. Clearly no responsible owner would allow one out to roam freely, which like begs the question why the **** would anyone want one ?

Do they fulfill a bizarre need among certain middle-class elements in the same way as dangerous and obnoxious dogs do among certain elements of the lower-classes ?

I'm very much a cat lover Rusty Shackleford.

And like many cat lovers I wouldn't want a cat which according to this thread, terrorises other cats, damages neighbours roofs, "decimates" local bird life, kills budgies, ducks, Koi Carp, the list goes on, apparently.

Are you surprised then ?

🙂 I said that did I King-ocelot ? I said that every cat other than a Bengal is a little angel ?

It is clear from the contributions on this thread that many owners believe that bengal cats are particularly destructive and violent.

Or did I misread that ?

I think that list applies to most cats ernie, I don't know if Bengals are really worse than others.

I love cats, but I'm not so keen on irresponsible owners turning them loose on wildlife.

Absolutely. People who are ok if their cat terrorises other cats, damages neighbours roofs, "decimates" local bird life, kills budgies, ducks, koi carp....... the list goes on.

I now know that I would never want a bengal. I also know that since they are apparently so destructive that I want my local council to require licenses for them. I shall check what the situation is locally.

BTW try to come up with something a little more original than the trolling allegation when you don't agreed with someone 💡

OUr cat Mia is Half Bengal (F4) and half Serengeti ( massive ears) she is fantastic fun. She plays fetch, used to sit when instructed. is definitly the boss cat in the area and has done more than her share of decimating teh local wioldlife, including lizards, frogs, baby rabbiots, pigeons, birds, slow worms. We dont let her out at night or early morning any more..
She quite often plays with my three year old boy. chasing each other from one end of the house to the other .
Very very vocal. high maiintenence, but i would have another like a shot:-)

Why not appoint yourself as kind of a local neighbourhood watch for Bengal owners. Surely if it's taken a thread on a mountain bike forum to make you aware of the horrors these wild beasts are inflicting on society (rather than them be a news worthy item) it needs someone to stand up control this problem? Im off terrorising tonight with my Bengal lock your doors people.

Beautiful amazing cats.

However having one in a built up area with lots of other houses around is not fair to your neighbours. They are known for killing pretty much anything that moves, being noisy and generally making a nuisance of themselves.

I would love to have one but only if I lived in a suitable location. There was one living up our street and it was a nightmare, into peoples houses through their bedroom windows, terrorising or killing their pets, noisy and a royal pain in the ass.

He was gorgeous but antisocial and as such the owners had to get rid. Not fair on the neighbours or the cat.

The cat will do whats natural to it!!! Owners should be responsible for those actions.

But like I said I'd bloody love one.... just not here!

Tremendous, pleased to hear it!

They're an intelligent, active, playful cat and exhibit their natural cat-like tendencies accordingly. I don't think our Bengal has 'decimated' the local wildlife than our old b&w moggie did. He was another intelligent, active and playful cat.

I'd think twice about bringing the 'scourge of the savage bengal'* to the attention of your local council, for two reasons. Firstly, there's nothing they could do (as-per the previous defra link) even if they wanted to, which, lets face it, is doubtful. Secondly, you'll come across as a bit of a desperate nutter. Each to their own though.

*edit: sounds like a Sherlock Holmes mystery!

🙄 How have I "derailed" this thread Cougar ?

You mean by having an opinion which might not be the same as yours ?

Bengal owners are perfectly free to carry on boasting how beautiful and destructive their cats are.

Report my post if you think me having a different opinion is "derailing" the thread.

You can roll your virtual eyes all you like Ernie, I'm not getting pulled into an argument with you.

It's not about a different opinion. It's about trying to provoke a reaction from people. You've seen a bit of hyperbole from posters and taken it as an opening to try and wind people up.

I've seen plenty of parents talk about their kids in a similar fashion to some of the comments on here; maybe you could pop onto Mumsnet suggesting that all their toddlers are licensed whilst you're at it. See what sort of a reaction that gets you.

You can differ your opinions all you like. You don't have to be deliberately inflammatory in the process.

And I'm not reporting anything. I can hold my own without running to teacher, thanks. Plus, there's too many bans being handed out at the moment for my liking.

Well if people stopped posting comments directed at me then I would. I made my point in my first post, that would have been enough for me. But clearly some people have been outraged that I should dare to express an opinion which doesn't conform with theirs. So I have posted several more times since.

Actually I find it rather bizarre that I have apparently touched such a raw nerve 🙂

I think this bit is what might have touched a raw nerve :

"Do they fulfill a bizarre need among certain middle-class elements in the same way as dangerous and obnoxious dogs do among certain elements of the lower-classes ? "

I reckon that comparing pretentious middle-class wallies and their pretentious "pedigree" cats with chavs and their dogs is what did it. Am I right ?

Can't say I see anything wrong with what Ernie's saying?

Everything in life is a balance of personal priorities: I like the convenience of having a car. There are bad points about it: cost, maintenance, insurance, liabilities of various kinds, pollution etc, but overall, I'm happy that the bad outweigh the good.

I've thought about a van, but realised it emphasises all of the negative issues I have with the car, without contributing a great deal more on the positive. Not for me, thanks.

If Ernie said he thought it was socially irresponsible to drive a 6-litre V8 4x4 while driving a 1.1 punto himself, who'd have an issue with that?

bad timing, on the Ernie defence, there!

Still, I call "lively, sparring debate" rather than trolling. Maybe.

Wanting something "special, unusual and interesting" for the sake of the rewards of having something special, unusual and interesting, is hardly the preserve of any particular social group.

e.g. bikes et cetera. And there's a lot of cetera.

I put it down to the fact all cats hunt, some (bengals, etc) are better at it than others.

Also a LOL at the way threads on STW end up.

Sadly Ernie's view (not directed at you Ernie so please don't feel the need to respond) is based on some friendly banter on STW (which doesn't stand for Cat Expert World last time I looked)

However, Mrs Legends parents are breeders (hence ending up with two) so here's what I know from hanging out with bloomin loads of them!

Bengal males tend to be slightly bigger than normal domestics, females are fairly normal size.
Temperament is very similar, they hunt just like any normal cat, some will always be better than others.
Many of them seem to be hilariously clumsy!
The are noisey when the feel like being chatty..... or you haven't fed them as per that days schedule (only the cat knows the schedule)
Terrorise other cats? There is always a bigger cat out there somewhere, there is always a pecking order in any neighbourhood
As mentioned earlier - F1 and F2 are classed as wild, you do not see these as pets. F3 would be nice but you'll pay silly money. By F4 you really just have a very pretty domestic cat that likes to make a little more noise than usual.

They will eat children (well someone needs to think of the children!) if one just so happens to look at moggy the wrong way*
.
.
.
*this may not be completely accurate

I'm just looking at a Bengal owners club I'm a member of, nobody appears to fit in with Ernies stereotype. I'm certainly not middle class and didn't chose a Bengal as a status pet. I chose him because I wanted protection in a bar fight.

terrorises other cats, damages neighbours roofs, "decimates" local bird life, kills budgies, ducks, Koi Carp, the list goes on, apparently.

I think this applies to any cat, my back alley moggy cost a fortune getting patched up after fighting other cats, loved to sharpen her claws on the felt roof, brought goldcrests, treecreepers and a variety of other rareties into the house, enjoyed batting the goldfish as well as a variety of other endearing habits.

All cats eat wildlife. Our two rescue moggies take fish from the neighbours pond, bring home pigeons and decapitate them on the living room carpet. We were watching TV the other night when a live field mouse was thrown across the room and hid under the TV, had to rescue it and release it back into the wild....
