seems to be no more than soundbites from retards and exceptionally dull, uninformative and cliche laden drivel.... not just on Cumbria shooting, on everything the level of reporting is shocking
>seems to be no more than soundbites from retards and exceptionally dull,
That's the public for ya.
Seriously, I thought the Cumbrian residents being interviewed were eloquent, calm and measured bearing in mind what they'd been through.
ive stopped watching the news.
I listen to it on R4 and I read it.
The Today programme do virtually no vox pop bolox and the printed press usually put gibberish quotes in boxes out the side to be conveniently ignored.
I despaired the first time I heard a reporter on 5live refer to someone's mother and father as his "mum and dad" 😡

Snob.
😉
these champagne socialists eh? 🙄
i'm probably going the same way stoner - maybe just read the economist thursday summaries for politics and business and i'm sure if anything important happens someone might mention it to me
the 'journalists' seem to be very, very, thick
Snob.
these champagne socialists eh?
You both have valid points. (Kinda) guilty as charged 🙂
most are indeed, very, very thick.
Some are far more observant though. Take Peter Oborne (dont let the fact he writes for the wail & flail put you off, he's a very good political observer, like Simon Hoggart), or Fraser Nelson - editor of the Speccie (but not a fruitcake like some of his columnists)
And Nick Davies from the other side of the fence in the Grauniad.
the thick ones i'm referring to in particular are the TV ones - 'so how do you think the people who might have heard a gun being fired, might feel about knowing that if they'd been outside on a different street they might have been shot'?
Television news, BBC or ITV is a joke! We only tune in for a giggle in the evening. Count the key words in any report and score a point for each. Banned. Blamed. Apologised. Failed. Resigned. Stabbed. The list of cliches goes on and on.
the joy of the radio news programme and the paper over tv is that they arent driven by a requirement to Phil Space.
Copy is limited and airtime is like gold dust.
Another for Radio 4 dont access news any other way why would you ? The Today programme and PM are both superb.
Even Stoner Jr says "Hello Eddie" to the radio at 5pm 😳
my kids try to do the pips ..there is quite a lot of stuff on the news not suitable for kids though
Daddy what does rape mean?
War crime was not easy to explain either (5 year old) but Daddy everyone knows baddies are baddies 😯 followed by what like Darth Vador when he got it.
If you can get it (I get it on Freesat) Al Jazzera's UK news channel is very refreshing. Reporting of actual events rather than the pre-announcing of announcements. You'd maybe not watch it every night, but its worth watching.
In the same way as 'Champagne' 'Melton Mowbray Pork Pie' and 'Nurse' are protected titles, I thing 'News' 'Journalism' and 'Documentary' should be too.
Phil Space.
Is he an astronaut?
at least the BBC has educated people reporting unlike Kay Burley for SkyNews. il-informed, borderline retard suppurating anal fistula of a woman
jools - that's the problem with the BBC news headline system. They limit the headline to 31-33 characters to make it compatible with Digital Text and Ceefax formats.
You end up with all manner of tortured grammar.
Reporting of actual events rather than the pre-announcing of announcements.
That really annoys me. "Such and such are set to announce something later today, we've got some people who were once involved in something similar to speculate on what might be said."
Although i've hated TV news presenters (they aren't journalists) for a long time, the election was the final straw. There was so little critical engagement with policies it was incredible. How often were the leaders pressed on what they would cut if they won?
So, another Radio 4 listener here. 5Live used to be interesting but then someone decided it was easier and cheaper to get people to ring in with ignorant opinions rather than pay for an expert's cab to the studio.
Have they interviewed an old person and a child yet?

Dont beat around the bush mate, say what you think 🙂
I just did. and she is, don't deny it! 😀
Stoner - Memberive stopped watching the news.

.
Isn't that because you haven't got a television ? 💡
I sold out for Stoner Jr's Thomas the Tank Engine fix 🙁
However, owning a TV does not necessarily lead to watching it all the time.
How about "Polish woman kills friend's son with sausage". The same number of characters as the original in Daily Mail style.
The BBC is dumbed down, politically influenced opium innit.
The break-up of Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson's, er, relationship was reported by that nice Mr Alagiah on the BBC1 6pm news. Surely there are more interesting, relevant things going on in the world? No?
