Quickie this, is it OK just to rock up and pitch a tent by the lake??

as in £free - probably not.
as in do you need to book - usually OK at Pant-Yr-Onnen except bank hols etc when they'll be turning you away if you've not booked.

if you pitch late in the eve and get up first light who's to know.
The best place to camp is in llanuwchlyn at the far end of the lake, cool site there, unlike some of the up them jobs elsewhere
