Question for the Auto Electricians...

After my heated seat caught fire whilst driving along, is there an easy test for the switch controlling the current to the seat elements? The damaged section is in the backrest, not the seat cushion.

What I don't want to do is replace the seat and have the same happen again, but also, if the switch is ok, end up having to pull half the dash and climate control apart to replace it for nothing.

I have a multimeter but what should I expect to see if the switch is working fine?

Car is a VAG Touran..

Thanks

You'd get a 12v reading wouldn't you?

Grizedale, yes, 12 v but its a rheostat so is the voltage going to change, or amps? How to know if the switch is faulty as well..

and yes, Burgatec, it was like that.. smoke, burnt clothes and burnt skin on my back...
