You will always read horror stories on the net but rarely will people post the good bits.
It is no more troublesome than any other auto box of it's time. Certainly better than the one in my works Mongdeo and that has covered near 100'000 mile in 3 years without fault.
My Dad bought a brand new Audi A6 (possibly a 56 plate). Gearbox was good until 4th year of ownership and then it was looking like it'd need replacing imminently so he traded it in.
Make sure you do some good research first.
Is that the CVT one?
If so, it's an unusual drive, well suited to relaxed cruising.
I have no personal experience, but there is an Audi technician that posts on the Pistonheads VAG forum under the username "Tame Technician". He has a firm view that the Multitronic should be avoided at all costs due to the problem/failure rate being far too high.
