The glory of STW summed up in three pages...We started with somebody trying to give away something for free, and are now up to a discussion on the poultry version of a veal calf and the green creds of tofu. Splendid work one and all, carry on! 😀
And the socialists are universally adored in Spain right now too.... 🙂
The left believe they have a moral authority politically which they believe translates to a moral authority in everything. The hubris in this seems to pass them by.
somebody trying to give away something for free
Im happy to report that was achieved sometime ago.
We are now heading into the left v right sunday night shuffle. To your battle stations people!
Clarkson was filmed eating an Ortolan in the traditional manner
He wasn't filmed eating anything, he was filmed with a cloth over his head.
He should "eat Ortolan" more often.
The left believe they have a moral authority politically
No, it's just that the Right are morally bankrupt is all.
But as pointed out earlier; they're just too blinkered and lack any self-awareness to actually see this.
This thread is win because it has given us this:
Is one most beautiful thing on internet.

In pictorial form.....
We started with somebody trying to give away something for free
No, we started with someone attempting to have their usual dig at the left, then lacking the ability to respond to any criticism other than to resort to personal insults.
Same old same old, then...
Is there a Waitrose at the services? Or at least M&S?
you were surprised that environmentalists tend to be lefties...here have another one bankers tend to be right wing
You are right the environmental movement would be crippled if it were not for centre right government. No idea what it is like on the mainland but over here every politician flouts their green credentials but does nothing much to demonstrate this.
fred you using the insults defence is a little like jordan asking for privacy tbh.
You poor pathetic little creature. As it happens I DID start this thread in order to give away my subscription to the Guardian for June, and have done so. I jest when I dig at Toynebee/Monbiot.
You on the other hand appear to be rather too tightly wound to be allowed online. You also type like Im supposed to care what you have to say.
I should be demonstrating with these people right now, but it's raining.
Ed - is that an offshoot from the Spanish lot? Arent they called Real Democracy Now or something?
Thank God 1789 was a hot summer eh
You poor pathetic little creature
Here we go! 😀 Nice attempt at a sneering, condescending attitude though.
Stoner, this is you:
'Oh listen to me I'm very clever I read lots of books about things don't need any real experience or knowledge because I've built a nice shed'.
You also type like Im supposed to care what you have to say.
You do care though. You do. Hence why you get so tightly wound that you need to resort to ad hominem attacks, rather than actually try to defend your blinkered and ignorant point of view. 😉
Bless.

Oh, teh ironing!
Don't you start Flashy. 😉
Junky; I don't insult others, I just point out the truth. 🙂
what on earth happened in 1789 JY or is that one of your typos and you mean 1989? 😉
french revolution stoner.
Ah. Cake o'clock.
French Revolution 🙄
I had to google but was only 3 years out
It was brioche, not cake.
It is Stoner, there were a few out on the "altermobile" ride and handed me a leaflet for tonight's manif in the town centre. Given that Béarnais are alergic to rain I can't see it being much of a manif. Real Democracy Now is an exact translation of what they call themselves.
I find it all quite interesting in that the traditional political parties in many countries represent only a very small part of the political spectrum whatever their political tag. Current New Labour policies are well to the right of Edward Heath and the French socialist party is a collection of bourgeois lawyers and bankers. some socio-economic groups in society no longer have any political party they feel represents their situation or views and things like Real Democracy Now fill that vacuum.
Stoner - Memberthe comparable to benefit fraud is tax evasion.
I am so glad you have pointed that out Stoner. You are of course absolutely right - the comparable to benefit fraud is indeed tax evasion.
And tax evasion costs the UK government FIFTEEN TIMES MORE than benefit fraud. I'm somewhat surprised however, that despite scrolling up and down the thread, I can't seem to find any post which mentions that tax evasion costs the UK government FIFTEEN TIMES MORE than benefit fraud - why's that ? 😕
Surely everyone knows that tax evasion costs the UK government FIFTEEN TIMES MORE than benefit fraud ? Presumably there are FIFTEEN TIMES MORE articles in the press concerning tax evasion than are concerning benefit fraud ? Because of course the problem of tax evaders is FIFTEEN TIMES MORE serious than the problem of benefit fraudsters.
It's almost as if people weren't aware that tax evasion costs the UK government FIFTEEN TIMES MORE than benefit fraud, which is quite frankly impossible in a society which has a free and fair press.
Tax evasion costs Treasury 15 times more than benefit fraud
Quote :
"tax evasion costing the public purse over £15 billion per year and benefit fraud just over £1 billion"
Tax evasion is around 3% of total tax liabilities, while benefit fraud accounts for 0.8% of total benefit expenditure"
I could be wrong 'cause I'm crap at maths, but I work it out that suggests that 99.2% of benefit expenditure is legit. So it's such a small problem that it hardly seems worth worrying about - they should deal with the much more serious problem of tax-dodgers I reckon.
Of course some cynics will suggest that they won't go after tax-dodgers, which cost the UK government FIFTEEN TIMES MORE than benefit fraudsters, because they tend to be Tory-voters, but I personally, am appalled that anyone would suggest that our firm but fair government would do such a thing.
completely agree Ernie.
The scale of tax evasion gives tax avoidance a bad name.
How many more times does tax evasion cost the UK than benefit fraud Ernie?
Ear Ernie; some church in Croydon has bin turned into a minster, which is just one stop from being a cathedral. Croydon could apply for city status, if that happens.
City of Croydon. S'got a ring to it, don't you think?
Ed - so you say the electorate would swing left if they could, or do you think there's chance that they might think theyd find find shelter to the right?
Can I just emphasis and restate that..........tax evasion isn't as serious as benefit fraud,
it is FIFTEEN TIMES MORE serious.
No. Next.
got you the first time. But as Ive posted before Ive already given away the Guardian subscription and I did explicitly rule out marxists. 😛
Pft. I don't believe those figures. I reckon tax evasion costs this country far more than that. I reckon FIFTEEN TIMES is a Conservative estimate...
It's the other way round Elfie, if Croydon gets city status the main Anglican church will automatically become a cathedral. Croydon applied for city status a few years back and failed. Personally I think it's a load of bollox - I'm perfectly happy with Croydon town.
no it was in the guardian 😀
Ive already given away the Guardian subscription and I did explicitly rule out marxists
You can poke your Guardian vouchers up your arse and set light to them for all I care
......... if you don't mind me saying so.
And please don't call me a "Marxist" ....... either a Leninist, or Marxist-Leninist, but never just Marxist - people'll think I'm a Trot ffs 😐
Can I call you Lenny Marks, Ernie?
Marxist-Leninist
Jeez. STW: The Home of the Niches 🙄
It's not just tax evasion (and I agree that that 15 times is an underestimate), it's capital flight, delocalisation, declaring profits where taxes are low and all those things that make up mondialisation, globalization or whatever you call it.
It's not a right or left issue because neither the right or left have tried to do anything about it becasue those that benefit are the people who fund the right and the left. He who pays the piper... . These Real Democracy Now people do have a point. Perhaps if they make enough noise the traditional parties will be forced to listen, for a while, till it goes quiet, and they can get back to the usual businees of mutual back scratching.
And in answer to Stoner's question. It's not so much being able to swing to the left if they could as being able to vote for someone that isn't rotten to the core and in the pockets of the rich whatever they claim to be.
Anyone hear that the Rees-Mogg woman got booted from the list? If only she'd gone with the Nancy suggestion from condomhead 🙂
tadeuszkrieger - Member"Are you a hand-wringin', tofu-eatin' liberal nancy?"
Yes, but it's better than being an culturally leaden, self interested, emotionally illiterate Tory boy buffoon.
Word.
