Our Makita drills use 14.4v batteries that makita do not make any more. Any remaining stock is nearly as expensive as a new drill and battery. There are plenty of knock off batteries cheep on the ebay place. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I was in the same boat and nearly bought a pair of knock offs but even at Chinese pricing I thought it better to abandon the voltage dead end and get a new makita kit.

Some will be decent, some rubbish. That's usually the difference with more expensive stuff - more consistency of quality...

The batteries in these fans are spent.

If he will buy cheap batteries It's better to buy from a reputable high-street retailer.

Not from some bloke with a suitcase.

Exactly.

They may even be stolen.

But the initial price of a name battery is so much higher.

You're paying for reliability.

I use rechargables.

Couldn't charge them last night because I was playing the keyboard.

Maybe Reed has name batteries, like Duracell or Ever Ready.

I got some cheapies to keep an Makita impact driver going.
Not impressed even compared with the original tired Makita ones. Lacked power. I got a partial refund and only use them for small screwing (oo er!) jobs now.

I did the same. Bought some unbranded ones for my impact driver and they really are rubbish. Will definitely stick to makita ones in the future.

I have bought the unbranded batteries recently, went for the 3Ah one and it has been fine in my tools, I would upgrade but I have a lot of gear on the same batteries so I will have to wait to upgrade everything.

Other option is to get the existing packs reconditioned, or look into doing it yourself. Still depends on the quality of cells used though!
