I live in Leeds and have seen the darker side of the city over the years but if this drama reflects how some kids are growing up nowadays I am honestly heartbroken.
Where are we going?
To Hell in a handcart, apparently.
First decent bit of TV I have seen in ages.
Didnt think it was depressing.
Young people being drawn in to gang culture, threatened when they don't comply, people being hunted down for being a 'snake, young boys dog getting hanged; nah, it's all good
It goes on , I am just not naive. Crimewatch was on earlier , and thats real.
Watched most of the first episode and wanted to like it but somehow found it lacking. Felt it was trying too hard (to be hard).
Our society has long been in decline. Gonna continue for at least half a generation unless a whole lotta shit gets sorted. And if it doesn't, then it's gonna be 25yrs+ before we see regeneration.

+1
Really well shot, directed & acted.
I didn't see it, but I did just watch 'Southland' on More 4. Dark.
It certainly didn't make me think it's any nicer over in LA.
Watched the first 3, gonna watch the final tomorrow. It does scare me to think that city yoofs are living that way, do they really speak like that though? Had to rewind some just to try and make sense of it.... maybe its cos i'm a northern monkey
yeah, Leeds can be a grim place, doesn't get the press that London gets for gang crime, but it's still there. I need to watch the last episode on demand as I missed it tonight, but what I've seen was really good.
Welcome to reality
Had met the guys making this. main Hospital filmed in was
The old Plaistow Hospital in Samson st E6.
Its fiction, get some perspective for gods sake, while stuff like this does go on, its been compressed into a story for dramatic effect.
I thought it was very well written and cast. The plot was sometimes predictable and sometimes the opposite. I would like more TV like this.
i thought it good in the end. wasn't that taken with it in the first episode but it was worth watching the second. i got drawn in. good tv.
Welcome to reality
Innit though? Why does stuff like this shock you?
Truth is it's just that stuff like what happens in rough areas is in the public conciousness much more these days, as all the teenage stabbings etc get sensationalised far more. TBH, things are probbly a bit better where I live, than they were when I was a yute dat. The issues are much the same. Yutes are praps less respectful of adults, granted, but don't buy into the Daily Wail hysteria of things being oh so much worse than they were in areas like this, cos they aren't. Crime has come down. There is less real poverty than there used to be. People have (well up until recently) had better access to education and opportunities.
Not to say things are great, far from it. But there's a lot of bullshit written and spoken about stuff most people jolly well have not a clue about.
Use to live in Leeds, typical city in that good/bad areas are practically next to each other.
When I went to friends in Gipton, I use to have to 'tip' the neighbours kids to ensure my car was 'looked after'..., and the wife worked on the Hairhills/Chapeltown border, she certainly locked the car doors after late shifts.
The interesting thing is that people think this is somehow new, that things are getting worse, that there was some unspecified time in the past when everything was so much better...
Crime and general naughtiness is reported so much more thoroughly, so much more immediately and so much more locally now, so the fear of crime can be ramped up so much more easily.
I'm not suggesting that things are great, just that things are not neccesarily indicative of the Apocalypse...
