[Closed] Anyone regretted going to a single oven?

We have a double currently, we hardly ever seem to use the top one any more. We rarely grill anything. Plus we have a microwave that can grill if needed, so I'm thinking of replacing it with a single oven (because the element has just gone in the existing one).

Anyone done this and regretted it?

There's no point asking what we do, it's you that's using it.

We use the double all the time, every weekend.

Hm Samsung to convertible ones - big one that you can split in half.

Is your top oven a stupid half grill half oven thing that does neither well, takes a day to warm up and struggles to cook an egg? Ours was and we never used it. Changed it for a new oven that has 2 proper multifunction fan ovens and now we use the top one more than the lower.

I have one of those clever Samsung ones with a divider that you can remove. It’s great.

It’s a Samsung NV75R7576RB. get the later one where all the controls light up.

1x really makes the chicken come alive.

Only downside is can't grill and bake simultaneously, but you already have solution to that.

I have a range cooker, because it looked fancy. I've used all five rings together once in four years and used the second oven fewer than five times.

We have a grill, main oven and side oven (and seperate microwave)
The grill is pretty poor really and I don't think the side oven has EVER be used.

If it was up to me (which it isn't) I'd have a single oven and halogen oven

Having inherited a double I love it and would never want to go back. But that's with 2 of us where the small oven/grill is quick and effective and used most days for something or other and the large oven is occasionally necessary for larger roasts and complex meals. If the small was mostly too small (eg for a family of 4 who ate together) I might not feel the same.

Our grill is ok but the top oven takes longer to heat up than the big one. And it's not fan. And it only has one shelf.

also have the Samsung with a divider - had it four years and never missed a beat. Divider in most of the time but great for stews or similar needing a bigger space.

I assume you have somewhere to keep stuff warm without the second oven?

Bigger ovens are much better.

big things cook better with a bit of space, and the top one is too tiny for anything anyway.

There is always a solution to needing 2. Eg to grill at the same time? use a griddle (overhead grills are crap anyway); 2 different temps? cook 1 thing first and warm while the other is resting; or just pick a temp in the middle and alter the timings.

2 big ovens though? I'll find space in the next kitchen

Aye, wee oven is great for plate warming, missus reckons it's better than the bigger fan oven for baking, we use them both constantly.

Mines doesn't take long to heat up at all (Siemens).

There's 5 rings because they fit different pans efficiently, not cos you need to use them all, all the time.

We've got a double but one of them is senile, I guess the thermistor's dead. We get on just fine without it though

Single here although the microwave is a combi thing that can do other stuff that we never use. Can’t think of anything we cook that is too much for one oven, or that needs a big temperature difference.

We went from a double range where we only used the second oven a few times to a full sized integrated single with a separate integrated microwave/oven. Don't miss the loss of two dedicated ovens as we have essentially the same space if needed and especially don't miss the microwave cluttering the side.

That’s what we did. Keep it simple.
