A ball has been dropped, wondering if someone can advise.
Eldest has only just discovered that wild camping is banned in Germany, and someone on the car park today told him euro500 fine for any camping, anywhere...
All the campsites are either booked or not answering phones today (should have been booked last week...).
So-
- is it German rules and how strictly enforced?
- any suggestions of places within an hour or so southerly from Munich to quietly camp a van and wee tent for the night?

@matt_outandabout - He needs a Stellplatze - small very low cost camping spots on the edge of town (same as Aires in France). They range from a bit of gravel to a full campsite but they're everywhere

Last month I spent 2 nights in Autobahn laybys in Southern Germany and nobody seemed bothered. Not nice places to sleep, but as a last resort.
At Serfaus Fiss Ladis there was someone ticketing Austrian & German vehicles that had camped overnight, they saw me watching them and didn't ticket me or and Italian car parked close by. Maybe its not worth the bother for them.

I have wild camped in Germany, and while the usual pitch late leave early, leave no traces can apply, there is a safety issue due to the amount of hunting they have, once I realised the real risk is being accidently shot rather than fined I stopped doing it.
Although probably not applicable to van camping.
I've stayed in a van in a rural spot near Meminghem, not far from Munich. Had no idea about the no camping rule, no one bothered us and we were there for two days.
Observe Rule 1 and no one will notice/complain,I guess the rule is just there to give them some power over anyone being a nuisance?
I've got British friends who lived in Bavaria and the rules are to be adhered to at all times. It's very anal

We've rolled up to stellplatze late at night and just parked up. Paid the person the next morning and then headed off.
Wild camping, or rather parking up your van for the night, anywhere other than an official spot is asking for fines if you're caught.
Look for Stellplatz.... Usually 10-15€ a night.
South of Munich is generally heavily controlled, especially in the last few years with the van boom.
Mate of mine was caught, got fined and now has a Übernachtungsverbot for the area around Bad Tölz.
Nice Stellplatz in Fall.... A few other official spots on the road from Kreuth.
I'll post a few spots that are safe and where they won't get bothered.

They're now back into Alps for the rest of the week - he's booking a couple of sites this morning for them (a job he should have done a couple of weeks ago...).
I've not heard from them, so assuming they're fine and just made an early start away from where they parked last night.
There's loads to do in the Bavarian Alps, they're great. Or are they only interested in the big Alps?
