I'm looking for somewhere new to live in the north west near Preston, for work, and I've mostly been looking at Eccleston and Wheelton area. Ribchester is too much and I don't fancy the centre of Longridge as I'm after a garden and off-road parking. So clithroe popped to mind but the Preston side and i've heard whalley and barrow are alright, but my source is sketchy. Does anyone know whalley and barrow area to sing their praises, or the opposite if it be the case? All feedback welcome on this.

I lived in Barrow for 20 yrs before moving. Both Whalley n Barrow are good places. Both are growing though more so Barrow. Whalley is better for riding from eg up the Nab. Clitheroe is also good. all of these are expensive areas to buy in. Excellent riding around Clitheroe, no vehicle needed. What exactly do you want to know?

Well I'm interested in the general feel of the place once the sun goes down and also what mix and quality the local shops have. I know its a little close to burnley, a place i'm not a huge fan of so i'm hoping its nothing like burnley.

Absolutly nothing like Burnley, good vibe to all the places listed. Whalley has little in the way of shops, more essentials and boutique stuff, Barrow even less, Clitheroe has 2 bike shops at least. All down to numbers. Whalley does have a night club so can get loud at kicking out time but thats in the centre. Personally no problem living in either place. My parents are still in Barrow and have been for 30+ years.
