Prior to today's hearing, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Harrison, who is leading the investigation, said: "The incident was reported to police as a road traffic collision.

"However, as the investigation has progressed it has now changed into a murder inquiry."

The police always tend to play safe with charges in the hope that a lesser offence results in a more successful prosecution, so for them to have gone to a murder charge does sound very serious indeed.

It does sound as though the accused used his vehicle as a weapon with malice aforethought.
Not a nice thought.
