I'm due to be on placement at Don Valley School starting towards the end of January. I live in Sheffield and am trying to decide if it'll be do-able by bike-train-bike (the bike being a Brompton).
Does anyone know where the school is and what the roads would be like for riding on in the morning (rush hour) and afternoon (school rush hour)?
(I've tried to put a link in to google maps but the forum doesn't like it. The school is on Jossey Road, just off of York Road/A638. Looks like York Road would be the most direct route.)
Thanks in advance
jon
Only thing I know about Doncaster is, it's quite normal to see folks doing it, (which is, I assume that thing that couples do before they get married and have kids) in nightclubs.
Not much help I know, but I used to work with a lad from Donny, and he was surprised when on a night out around my neck of the woods that no one was.
Wow, I really can't wait to start teaching there...
Iknow as a student on a day trip from Hull, that the indoor market was where I discovered as an innocent middle class person of southern upbringing, that there was a market for second hand pornographic magazines.
Could you possibly buy second hand porn, without wondering who in town had their hairy hands on it first, and where else those hands had been???
From Doncaster and work in a school... though not don valley.. ๐
you shouldnt be too bad traffic wise as you are going out of town..
the roundabout at the other side of the north bridge will be your only problem as it can get a bit congested around there in the morning.. other than that plain sailing all the way down york road..
Don Valley backs on to York Road, two miles north of the town centre. If you've done the google maps directions that will send you over St George's bridge. On the bike you can use the old North Bridge which is bus/taxi/bike only and cuts the worst of the traffic too. From there there is a shared use cycle path/footpath the rest of the way. About fifteen minutes from the station should do it, maybe twenty. Doncaster is flat. Brompton will be no problem on the train, but it will be busy. You will be working against the traffic in the mornings should you want to use the road rather than the cycle lane, as it will be stop/start crossing side roads. Coming back into town in the evening there is a bus lane for a bigger chunk of the way you can use. So yes, it will be an easy enough commute, not worth the extra train link up to Bentley unless the timings are very favourable.
Brilliant. Thanks for the responses. Good to get some insider info. I'll do a trial run in a couple of weeks.
