Yep. All girl bass players rock!!!! Lottery winners Katie Lloyd…..omg, amazing talent!!! Had the fortune to speak to her a couple of times….not sure I said anything apart from “I love you”!!!!!
Alex Turner's accent really doesn't work with the older songs does it?
Love my music but never been a fan of huge crowds so festivals are generally watched via the TV and sofa. Loved Fred Again so far.
Alex Turner engaging more with Glasto crowd than he did at the ‘Homecoming’ gig at Hillsborough ☹️
^ 'homecoming' gig sounds like it will be in LA next time.
@ifra I’m the same. I go to loads of gigs, but Glastonbury is just a step too far me. Missus and co are there, but it just doesn’t appeal to me….costs a fortune as well.
We are doing Kendall calling, and I am looking forward to it. Have to admit I’m slightly jelous tonight as been some great bands on, missus has seen Lottery Winners (awesome by the way); foo fighters, royal blood and now arctic monkeys. That’s a good line up for a Friday!
What happened to the Arctic Monkeys?
I mean, Radiohead went ****ing awful after the Bends but this dirge is a whole lot worse. It’s hard to believe they were once spiky teenagers on the internet getting to number 1 with some awesome indie rock. Are all the people ‘enjoying’ this being ironic?
what am I missing?
Well I’m enjoying the Monkeys!
At the risk of being the negative guy on the Glasto thread yet again.....this AM isn't very good is it?!
yeh, not really doing it for me either. Have to be there to feel it I think
Will await the verdict from the fam who are there. Missus isn’t a fan. We watched them last week in London, and she still wasn’t a fan.
There was a clash with the Chemical Brothers tonight and I still don’t know why she’s gone to the Monkeys….I’m a big fan of the monkeys so I’m expecting a text in the morning saying it’s my fault!!
Perhaps you just don’t like Arctic Monkeys!? 🤔
It’s Monkeys playing their songs - they’re not teenage kids anymore.
GnR tomorrow will either smash it or bomb! Hopefully the former.
Well, Wizkid seems to be smashing it on 'the other' stage, (listening on radio) Got bored of the Artic Monkeys so switched over,
Wizkid bringing a full live band, wonderful musicianship and plenty of Fela Kuti vibes.
Perhaps you just don’t like Arctic Monkeys!?
I really like them! First album came out in my first year of uni, so a soundtrack of my formative years. Just feels fairly flat to me.
Bear in mind he has Laryngitis so isn’t going to be exactly pushing it. Decent set IMO
My daughter has just texted and said they were far better at Coventry and Alex just looks a bit fed up! 😀
Kids are telling me this whole set is much slower than the set at Emirates.
Plus Mardy Bum in Los Vegas drawl…really?
Text from me daughter!…
“he defo had more energy when we went though”
😀
Another text from me daughter…
“ he does look rather stoned as well😭🤣”
… so perhaps not as good as it could be.
Missus W just called, her thoughts on the Monkeys….nope still doesn’t like them. She was saying he’s just not engaging. Almost like listening to an album being played….and why the **** do I like them as I made her miss the chemical brothers and the lazer spider shooting fire….knew it would be my fault!
waking up to reports of the monkeys and billy nomates being slated, and BNM asking for her footage to be removed from BBC.
what have i missed? were they really that sh1t?
FWIW saw BNM supporting amyl and the sniffers earlier this year and she seemed to be well received, altho a little boring to this middle/old aged ex-punk 😀
were the crowd slating them, or just the keyboard warriors afterwards?
BNM - I read that she'd been targeted by some nasty misogynist trolling / abuse after her set, rather than particularly about quality or otherwise of performance.

AM - I am (was) a fan 10 years ago, not so much now but daughter's boyfriend saw them at OT 3 weeks or so ago and said it was amazing. OK, he's been ill since but I was expecting more TBH rather than just playing some songs live. Contrast Cocker (son, not Dad) at IoW last week that even on TV was compelling viewing.
My 2p as a non-paying punter.
Shame to read about the BNM abuse.....no live band means I'm unlikely to watch, but no need for a pile on!
Not seen huge amounts of the lineup today as I'm missing it all, but really recommend Loyle Carner if people aren't feeling GnR. His live band are ridiculously good, Rocco Palladino on bass usually (yes he's Pino's son). West Holt's headliners, I'm hoping it'll be on iPlayer for a few days. I think that Ezra Collective are on today too, again absolutely awesome live band.
Edit: Jacob Collier too today I think?
Alex turner has never been a "banter" frontman, he's always about his music and nothing much else. He was way more talkative last night than any time I've seen them before! I love the fact that the music has changed as they've grown up & he hasn't lost the swagger of his 17 year old self, it's just changed. He is becoming somewhat eccentric though 🙂
The new stuff is great, amazing really that they have continued to put out music of consistently high standard (IMHO of course). I'd happily watch a live show of AM onwards and sod the old stuff. Anyway, it was a "four out of five" from me 😁
Agree - Monkeys have moved on a lot in their style and performance. People think they still make the same music they did in the beginning though.
Foo’s - yeah all energetic and stuff but 30 mins is enough for me. There’s only so much shouting I can put up witH
Fever Ray were amazing, I want to go and see that live.
Feel a bit sorry for Arctic monkeys, same goes for any bands with a landmark debut. They might have spent 20 years morphing into Roxy Music, doing what they want, but it must irk them a bit knowing that most of the crowd is just there itching for them to play the opening two tracks off the first album. I liked their set but it definitely felt a bit subdued. Maybe pyramid stage headline expectations are too high.
Young Fathers and Comet is Coming were brilliant obviously.
Watching BBC Breakfast before I went out.
There was a great interview with Shaun Ryder's son, Bez's son, and also Andy Barker's son out of 808 State who now (I was late to the interview) are part of the Unfairground. Telling stories about their Dad's at Glastonbury and coming as kids was great.
Also - Rick Astley on the opening slot today might be ironically fun. But apparently he's playing with Blossoms later....doing all Smiths covers which sounds awful but is apparently brilliant.
Looking forward to Lana Del Rey tonight
Rick Astley on the opening slot today might be ironically fun.
Nope. Just all in good honest fun, for a one hit wonder that was great.
Just watched Billy No Mates, after hearing she'd had some hassle on social media after her slot yesterday. Thought her voice and performance were superb. Then read more about what had been going on, and her statement which almost sounded as if she was going to throw in the towel after her next few shows. Social media can really be a very sh***y place with some real scumbags lurking cant it? No one should have to try and to tolerate that. Music should be celebrated as a broad church and if people dont like something, just move on to the next thing.
I cant see what's so different about her stuff and, say, Sleaford Mods with the backing tracks. Just they dont seem to get the same level of c**p thrown at them (quite the reverse). But they're blokes and there are two of them...? BNM and SM both loved in this house:)
wrong phrase but much as I love a live band and the interplay, it takes balls to be the only one there with a backing track - everyone's attention is in only one place, you have to bring the energy of 4 or 5 or more. If you can do that then why not?
I'm only a couple of songs in but I like it (previous only passingly aware, through collabs with Sleaford Mods, etc). I like it a lot.
Music should be celebrated as a broad church and if people dont like something, just move on to the next thing.
This. The reality is there aren't any 'bad' bands performing, there are simply not that many that appeal to my taste or listening pleasure.
Too many gatekeepers.
Really enjoyed Sudan Archives. New to me.
Great performance that shows you don't need a load of people/band.
Just violin, beats, talent and creativity.
is billy idol reading the lyrics from a screen a la karaoke?? certainly looks like it 😀
is billy idol reading the lyrics from a screen a la karaoke??
I'm getting more of a Karate than Karaoke vibe...

Loving Third World at the moment - happy, bouncing reggae!

That’s Rianne Downey (above), seen her in Warrington with Paul Heaton, amazing talent.
Missus managed to get very close to the action today. And she was on TV as well! I didn’t see her as I was out on my bike….
She won’t thank me for this pic!

Jacob Collier presenting the case against music theory.
Maggie Rogers is not someone I'd heard of before. Really liking it. Nailing the vocals.
How does a Glasto virgin actually get tickets then? Wife and I have tried four or five times without success.
Manics! Straight into a classic
He does look less like an angst ridden youth adrift and more like my GP now though
Loving Rick & Blossoms 🤣
I mean, Morrissey is a colossal tit clearly, but the songs! To see a whole crowd most of whom weren't even born singing them back. How are they nearly 40 years ago?
Yep, Rick and Blossoms were 'kin great!
