Anyone else off to Glastonbury this week?
I am and really looking forward to it. First time in ages I’m looking forward to seeing headliners (guns and roses and Elton) mainly about smaller bands for me though.
bit disappointed William green has gone as great place for small bands and dad dancing to guilty pleasures and power ballads later in the evening.
weather is obviously a big factor and looks like could still go any way.
anyone else going? What are you looking forward to doing or seeing?
Went a lot in the late 90s and 000's but no more. I'm not a fan of camping nowadays.
By brother is but I’m not, despite us having an agreement to get each other tickets if we got through. He got a ticket for his ‘lady friend’ but she isn’t going (and of course tickets are non-transferable, and on-site security is way too tight).

Been once. Jumped the wall, slept on the floor of the acoustic tent.
I went a couple of times in the early 90s - looking at the line up it doesn’t seem to have changed much

The sunburn years 😎
Just checked. Went 90, 92 and 93. At least one of those was an under the fence job. Highlights were The Orb, Sinead O’Connor, Cure, Porno for Pyros and Happy Mondays - and Rolf Harris before we knew he was a perv….
Did not win at the ticket game _again_
Wish I was going
Enjoy!
Are we not all going to Hannah's wedding instead of Glasto?

I think my postman is going in my stead as my invite was "lost". Yea postie.
All my mates are going, I've been several times, but this year I spent my cash on riding the Frontier 300.
Girlfriend is going, she goes most years. I didn’t fancy it. It’s all a bit too much for me. I’m doing Kendall Calling instead.
The story of the long drop is one of the many reasons why I’ll never go. I’m too old and needing my creature comforts.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve been keen on going to Glastonbury. It’s just too damn big, and there’s too much walking between the various stages.
My ideal festival is Greenman and End Of The Road. I’ve done Greenman twice, and EOTR last year, which was a superb lineup for me.
Greenman had a good lineup this year, but it sold out well before the lineup was even hinted at, and EOTR didn’t have anyone at all to make it worth going.
I think the only person who could make me want to go to Glastonbury would be Joni Mitchell.
This is bigger than Glastonbury and Latitude combined....Introducing......

See you there 🙂
Can everyone stop calling it Glastonbury 🙄
Did 6 of them back in the 1990.
3 wet, 3 sunny. Was there for Pulp, The Prodigy, Robbie Williams, RATM, Blur, Oasis, Rolf Harris etc.
I'm genuinely torn as to whether I would want to do it again. I have some fantastic memories, but I suspect that I have blocked out a lot of the less fun bits (loos, queues, getting my tent robbed, the mud etc...)

Love it. Lovely ride out Brissle folks. There is a photo there doing some very heavy lifting on the 'sandy beach'side of things 🤣
Yup - I'll be there, first time every at the grand old age of 46 - think I'm their ideal demographic.
Work in IT - member of STW - listens to 6music.
Also doing Green Man & EOTR this year
going, but I'm local so even with taking tent might go home for sleep and shower

Has it rained much there? Coming down from the north of England and it's spent a few days raining here.
cloudburst for an hour last night, rained for a couple of hours Saturday, but its been hot/warm and dry for a month.
BBC Weather (usually acurate for here) got showers shown for this afternoon and tomorrow then 23-26c into next week

Looking over towards the site yesterday evening. Weather much the same today after that brief wetting last night.
How the hell does anyone get tickets. We've tried for years but never managed!

I remember in the 90's we waited until the line ups were announced then decided if we'd go.. Believe we bought our tickets over the phone too!

Why? It is, after all actually called The Glastonbury Festival. Or are you a pedant who insists that it should be the Pilton Pop Festival, just because that’s the village where Eavis’ farm is?
You’re on a hiding to nothing if you actually think anyone is going to pay any attention after all these years!

Yeah, well that’s why I gave up on Glastonbury years ago, after repeated attempts to get tickets. Plus it’s now got twice the population of Bath! 😳
Smaller festivals like Greenman and EOTR are becoming more popular because they are smaller, and far easier to move around, but their ticket numbers are kept fairly low, although I think Greenman has increased by a couple of thousand or so. People enjoy them because of the atmosphere, and will often book up for earlybird tickets as soon as they’re announced - last year’s EOTR was the first after the Covid shutdown, and I booked the moment I heard Pixies were still going to be a headliner, I didn’t care about anyone else. As it turned out, it was a very good lineup indeed, but this year hardly anyone who I’d want to bother seeing. I can remember a time when you actually had to write to the box-office with a postal order or a cheque! That was for gigs as well, or else you had to turn up at the box office and queue!
Never wanted to go to Glastonbury, I will however be at Greenman and EotR. Greenman line up looks good, not sure about EotR, but I've said that before and found plenty of music.
Wish I was at the farm this weekend.
Is eotr/gm the stw festival of choice now then? Add to the wood burner, pizza oven, transporter list?
(Going to eotr, it's always quality)
<p style="padding-left: 40px;">No, clashes with the best festival up here

Watching this band on iPlayer at the moment, the Churnups. They're ok for a band I've never heard of.
Didn't one of them used to be quite famous?

Family are two rows back from the front of the pyramid stage…..and I’m in the pub….let’s hope they’re not on tv or I’ll never hear the end of it!
Will post some pics tomorrow hopefully if they have a signal.
If this is going to be the annual Glastonbury thread, including those watching from home, im loving Young Fathers on iPlayer right now! Cracking set so far...kind of wish i was there...
Masie Peters killed it
Never got the Foo Fighters
Royal Blood pretty awesome for a bassist
Artic Monkeys our house believes!
Royal Blood pretty awesome for a bassist
I like their song, so was delighted when they played it over and over and over...
Enjoying Fred Again, agree about Maisie Peters she looked as though she was having the time of her life.
Looking forward to AM.
Watching Fred Again, bringing back some of the best memories of my life 😄 Really do need to go again. Will be at EotR again this year as I get residents tickets. Not really that fussed about the lineup as I trust the curation and I love randomly stumbling across great live music.
Lol yes I actually typed ‘a bit samey ’ for Royal Blood but then deleted it as thought it a bit negative for a glasto thread - but yes they were.
Anyway I feel AM owes me as I had to pick my kids up from the chaos at Emirates last Sunday and sat in traffic for an hour - not to mention the crazy ticket prices for them and their mates that I paid!
so better be a good show tonight lads, none of that sore throat stuff!
Discovered Khruangbin and Angelique Kidjo last year from pinging around iPlayer.
Nothing grabbing me yet.
some of the stuff I want to see doesn't seem to be on iPlayer - Benefits and Billy Bragg on Left Field stage.
Hoping they have it on catch up somewhere.
Looking forward to Christine and the Queens on Woodsie's tomorrow night. The Grauniad really rated his latest show (more than a concert) so hoping it's at least part of the same - he has always put on a show rather than just played their music.
I too really enjoyed Young Fathers.... particularly liked the shout out for Suella.
I started with Gabriels whilst doing some admin.... thought that they were superb. Then caught some of the Foo's...I'm not a fan as such, but they're basically the perfect festival band I guess, really good! Saw a bit of CVRCHES...not really my bag, decent band though. Caught some of BADA$$.... seemed to be a bit of a miss rather than a hit to me. Royal Blood, loved their first album.... they're a bit 1 dimensional I guess....not much more you can do with that lineup though. The stuff he does on bass with his pedals as well as doing lead vox is very very impressive imo. Currently enjoying Warpaint and enjoying them, will watch some of AM but I'm on the road early tomorrow and not back until Tuesday with naff wedding gigs, so will miss the rest of it. Seems better than any in recent memory to me.....I've thought that the last several have been absolutely dire.
Just watching Los Bitchos. I think I'm in love with the bass player.
Where as I fell in love with Cat Myers drumming for Texas
all girl bass players rock, fact. From Carole Kaye to Tina Weymouth to Gail Ann Dorsey to Kim Deal to Laura Lee and many many more, they are the coolest musicians in the world.
Sparks are mental aren't they, with Cate Blanchett as backing dancer.
Just......just.......weird.
theyre a bit 'dadrocky' for me, but i was impressed with the foos new drummer.
