Not quite. He's tweeting from a french hospital with a broken back. Massive shunt.

Slightly differing reactions from the garages there.

Aren't the holes over the wheels supposed to stop the cars taking off when they get sideways?

It might help get them down sooner but a very big light surface travelling at those speeds, like the underneath of one of those cars, once the wind gets under is going up.

Isn't a tyre wall at the end of a long straight like that inevitably going to cause injuries ?
Is there any reason why they couldn't use catch fencing across all that open grass instead ?

Yes, but the holes are there specifically to stop that happening, which suggests the regulators need to go back to the drawing board. Plus, according to Audi, the holes also change the c of g, possibly resulting in a car more likely to spin in the first place.
