Sometimes this bothers me and sometimes (for months at a time) I don't really car or notice it then suddenly will realise shit my heart is beating hard! But I tend to have a really strong heartbeat, so much so that the beat will shake my whole body (yeah even when theres no music), I can be lying still and watch my body and it will shake due to my heart beat. You can also see my chest really move where my heart is.

This is not necessarily caused by any physical exercise, it can just be when I am sitting doing nothing, but the thing that seems to make it stronger is when I am nervous or get an adrenaline rush from something. Obvioulsy when I am riding or pushing myself physically it does get strong but it just seems at unusual times it is excessively strong.

I also often get random big rushes of adrenaline (yeah it's great, free drug) but can just be at any random time, I think this might have been down to coffee/caffeine though, which I stopped drinking about a week ago to see if it makes a difference, was drinking a really strong Moka in the morning (three person one).

It has been like this for a loooong time so I am not too worried but just thought I would ask...

It sounds like it's something trying to get out.

Is your heart rate really low?

I'm exactly as you describe. Sat on the sofa just now after dinner, and I can see my pulse rate moving my feet and chest.

I also find coffee and caffeine in general have a huge effect on my pulse, either during exercise or not.

It doesn't worry me really, I just put it down I doing a fair amount of training etc, never thought it would be a bad thing.

dont delay get yourself checked out, could be nothing, could be something.

Do you get headaches too, if so it could be a blood pressure issue.

Get yourself to the doc to be on the safe side

alwillis - I read that it can be caused by... erm crap, how do i explain it... when you eat it takes a long time for your food to get from your mouth to your stomach, thereby being pressure around your chest = the stronger heartbeat. I say that as you mention you just ate

No headaches as such to report, just now and then as per a usual person I would say

I can't remember the name of it, but there is a condition where you're aware of and can feel your heartbeat when at rest (without putting your hand on your chest etc). Typically, it's fit/strong/young/slim men. Usually nothing to be bothered about, but can be a bit disconcerting.

It's always happened to me, despite no longer being of the young persuasion. Sometimes I can't stop noticing it, and it keeps me awake.

I'll take that, sounds about right 8)

In all seriousness I think I will go along and see a doctor, just to put my mind at rest.

Me too, been the same for years, particularly in my abdomen,

But Mrs. C has a resting heartbeat of an ultrarunner and her heart pretty much stops altogether some nights.

She has drugs for this.

High systolic (or the other one) pressure.

Mising a beat - that happens to me a lot if I either a) drink too much caffeine or b) have done lots of training.

Apparently it's common after exercise as your heart develops and grows and the electrical pathways move and change. I am not a cardiologist though.

I get this. Also, I once had someone mention that they could hear my heart thumping in my chest, after I had been exercising. They were standing a few feet away from me 😯 Its a bit weird / disconcerting.

The odd beat missed or a double one every now and them isn't an issue, infact it's perfectly normal. I got a telling off by the ward sister after my MI for "playing" with my heart... I was sat watching my ECG and it dawned on me that I could make it skip a beat or put a double in... I forgot that the nurses station had monitors too. She marched in with a "...and you can pack that in right now young man" before removing the leads from me then taking some sadistic pleasure in removing the adhesive electrode pads from my hirsute chest...

That's where I learned that your heart can do stuff like that ( though you can only fanny about with it if you are concentrating on a live feed)

I get this, and have had it for a long time, even when I wasn't as fit - if I stop breathing I can see/ feel my t-shirt moving up and down.
I've had a couple of tests recently (as part of general check-ups) and everything is fine - I was told I just have a strong heart-beat - particularly the first pulse, but nothing abnormal.

Brakes - holding my breath greatly amplifies it too

Jock - I woudl say the same, I rekon I can make it skip a beat rather than it being a random thing, usually accompanied by an adrenaline rush...
