My laptop is dead and I'm after a new one. I don't need anything fancy, just something for surfing the internet, storing photos, using itunes etc.
There's so many makes and models i'm absolutely lost.
My old laptop is a Packard Bell easynote TJ75. Intel Core i3 330M, 640GB, 4GB memory. It's 4 years old and is now quite slow so I want something quicker.
My question is this. For about £400 you can get a new laptop with Intel Core i3, 6-8GB memory and 50o-750GB storage. Is it me or have things not moved on???? I don't seem to be getting much of a better spec than my 4 year old model. Are the Core i3 processors better now or something? I would have thought that with advancements i'd be getting a better processor.
Thanks for your help.

Unless it's physically broken, you don't need a new one. Laptops don't get slower over time, but Windows does.
Re-install windows, it will be like new.
Yes the i3 in your machine is one of the first batch. There are two generations after it and they are indeed a fair bit better. Other than that the rest of the components have come along but not by leaps and bounds let alone that it sounds like it was a decent spec four years ago. You also don't say how much you bought it for? Does not sound like it would have cost £400 4 years ago... The other thing is that for what you do any new machine will work fine.
Having said that the very bottom of the market hasn't changed much that is for sure, the major changes are happening to prices above the 600£ mark with high res displays, SSD disks, much thinner/lighter profiles.
I'd look at the Lenovo store online, they have some very decent sales every so often. Might be a bit more expensive a bit less specced than your average brand but they are nicer machines to use.
Ah thanks for that. Makes a bit more sense now. The old laptop may have been more than £400 I can't really remember! I would just reinstall windows but the laptop is knackered and needs repairs so sod it I'll get a new one. Thanks for your help
