[Closed] Anybody recommend me an e-mail client?

I'm moving ISPs and would like to download all the e-mails from the ISP account (to be honest I should have got an offline e-mail client for that years ago as the webmail interface is rubbish). Any recommendations for something to work on Windows 7? If it makes any difference I mostly use Chrome for browsing, but certainly don't have any problem with Mozilla products (I guess I would be prepared to use something from MS if it's really the best option).

Windows Live Mail from the Windows essentials pack. (Isn't that part of Win 7 anyway?).

Doh - beaten to it by 58 seconds ๐Ÿ™‚

Windows Live Mail? which is free

Then connect to current isp mail and pull down all the mail.

The sign up for Gmail or Outlook.com account and then sync mail back on to that server - then you can connect and see all your mail on phone, tablet any pc etc

's what I use. Note there's a 2012 version of Essentials which (last I looked) was very well hidden compared to 2011.

I dabbled with Thunderbird for a while. It's arguably better, but too fussy and 'full-featured' for my needs.

Partly that I didn't know it existed (and yes I do have Live installed) - if I click on an e-mail link it wants to start Outlook. Mainly that I wasn't very impressed by Outlook when I had to use that. Is that what you'd recommend then?

There's nothing wrong with it and it works just like any other email client. If you are running Windows 7, you can get an update to the Live Essentials pack here: http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-all/en-gb/wlsetup-all.exe??WLXID=7b0c3423-0218-47db-a82d-327723f46557&RID=002495bd4fe&TID=1363209340386&lid=

Don't do that, then.

You can change the file handle association in your browser settings.

IMHO Outlook (as opposed to Outlook Express) is a fantastic corporate (Exchange) client but a sucky POP3 Internet email client. I'd avoid it for what you're trying to do TBH.

Thunderbird has a load of features and works consistently well. Maybe overkill if you're just syncing one gmail account or something, but if you've got multiple accounts it's a lot easier to keep track, especially if you take a few minutes to set up some filters (like sending facebook and twitter stuff to it's own folder).

If you want simplicity, then just hide some icons from the top toolbar. Done.

OK, thanks for the advice - I'll try Windows Live Mail then (once I've updated).

You'd think it ought to be straightforward to change what your browser does with a mail-to link, but actually it's far from obvious in Chrome, despite using gmail as standard. I normally just copy e-mail address and paste that in gmail - it's not something I do all that much, though I guess it would be easier to just click.

edit: though finally a recommendation for Thunderbird, which is what I was expecting to be told to use...

Get it all in Gmail and then you won't be asking how to get it off your PC when that fails - http://support.google.com/mail/answer/56283?hl=en
