Hi

Trying to sort out a shower drain pump for a barge charity that I work for and people (after lots of issues with float switches and water based sensors) want to try a flow/pressure switch on the shower pipe, ie when shower on it will turn on shower pump. And possibly add an overrun.

We’re after something reliable/bombproof(barges hired out) and serviceable etc any ideas, names of products etc.

Ive found motorhome stuff like whale do a pressure switch, jabsco marine stuff etc but any help much appreciated ta.

What's wrong with the Jabsco stuff?

Have you thought about using  a 12V PIR sensor near the shower to control the waste pump instead?

For example:

Over run timer built in.

Doesn't get over the problem of the drain clogging with hair, soap scum & gunge that also causes the problems with float switches though.

Hi

Nothing wrong with jabsco just wondering what options are as it’s an area I know nuffink about ..., probably can’t use a pir as we don’t want pump to run dry and shower in toilet wet room

Another option would be to fit an automatic bilge pump - but this would require the shower to drain into an accessible sump.... or the bilge!

they're pretty tough units as bilges are not very clean!

There's a few options on here

We’re using automatic ok in 3 showers (the ones with decent sumps) but Sadly one shower has no sump and it’s the problem one

Are you using centrifugal pumps?

I though the de-facto standard for these things was the Whale Gulper which will happily run dry.

Do the other showers discharge straight into the canal?
(I have no idea what the regs are for barges)

If so, can the water from the problem shower be directed into the bilge from where the bilge pump will get rid of it?
Having soapy water me biology of not a bad thing..... Actually it's good!

I deal with a lot of shower pumps.
The switch depends on the type of pump
What are they?
Generally, the Whale sensors have 3 wires. Older ones had 2.
AKW tend to have a switch inside the shower.

Would a Whale Gulper pump do the job?

Or you can buy shower sumps with built in pumps.

We’re going whale pressure switch, mainly as somebody has just bought one, then it’s down to how well we get on with it next season. Cheers.
