Forget splitting the atom.....
I am moving our washer and drier into an unused downstairs toilet. There are many reason why this is good, it's also easy as there is a water supply for the washing machine already there. However I cannot see to. Find any adapters which will allow me to attach the waste pipe to the soil pipe. Surely there must be a way?
Any help appreciated.

Who needs lenor when you can connect right to the toilet
If it's a plastic soil pipe, then you want a "strap on boss".. Basically drill a neat hole into the soil pipe, clean up, attached fitting and tighten strap around the soil pipe to make it all water tight.
Any decent plumbers merchant or largish B&Q etc should sort you out.

Presumably there is a washbasin in the room? Why not connect to the drain as normal? Anyway either way you'll need some form of branch fitting. Should be plenty of options at a decent supplier.
I cant imagine walking into a builders merchants and asking for a "strap on boss for my soil pipe".... ๐ฏ
I'm not sure what a surplus pontiff has to do with your plumbing woes
Don't forget the solvent weld glue when you attach your strap on boss, and the correct size insert for 40mm pipe.
Word of advice, for this scenario only, when using a strap on apply solvent adhesive or you will weep! Ironically the same will happen in any other strap on/adhesive activity.....do not get confused.
What strap on boss for Papacy?
Strap on looks good, but I don't have enough pipe (grown up).
The soil comes out of a concrete floor and then just bends 90 degrees to meet the toilet. I almost need a cap which will take a 40mm waste pipe?
There is boss that you push through tighten and it expands, but I've never tried it to test.
EDIT: Kind of like this from memory http://www.ukhps.co.uk/products/McAlpine-BOSSCONN110%252dBL-4%22%7B47%7D110mm-x-1%C2%BC%22-Soil-Pipe-Boss-Connector-Black.html
Q: Is it unsafe to google "strap on boss" at work ?
A: Does the pope shit in Moe's dryer ?
You can get a pan connection with a spigot on top but it means bog out to fit. http://www.terrybookers.co.uk/mcalpine-pan-connector-wc-con8v-90-degrees-bend-adjustable-length-with-vent-boss-rigid-wc-connector-1276-p.asp
If you're connecting to a soil pipe you'll also need to put in a trap to stop the stench backing up through the pipe. These are quite effective
Just to clarify I am binning the toilet, it will have a washing machine in its place. The current soil seems to be concreted around so it doesn't seem as though I can remove it, only add to it, there is no room for a strap on. Should I just ad a 90 to it, a length of pipe (with plug on end) then just add a strap on to that?
Stavro - good call.
Thing is the toilet has a permanently wet 'trap' meaning the water acts as the odour blocked.
Luckily it doesn't sound like the toilet is the head of the run if the pipe doesn't continue anywhere else? Is there a pipe outside the house in that area?
If there is, that is doing the venting so you might be alright.
I would ring a friendly plumber, chuck him a few quid and ask what to do. I'm fortunate enough to know a plumber but he said if someone is capable of doing it themselves he knows most of his colleagues are happy to 'consult' for a couple quid, or a pint in the local!
ideally you replace your 90 bend with a straight, build a sub stack and add your strap on to that. Pop an AAV on the top to seal the smell in. If you really don't want to dig up the concrete then addind another 90 doesn't sound terrible.
I think you need to get building regs now for any changes to soil pipes?
