Yep, it is awful. The sheer amount of custom code required to make it work is scary, I'm fairly sure that straight out of the box it does absolutely nothing.
We previously used SAP with 10 years worth of developments, we've been attempting AX for the last 4 years and it is frightening how crap it is, all we do now is come up with bodges and work arounds in an effort to keep production going.
Worked on a project related to it at my last employer.
I questioned why they used select * before I knew about the architecture. The AX tier in the middle means the people on the UI end have no idea what's going on in the business layer, but they can work in the data layer. It's crazy and performance at scale on the cloud platform just isn't there. We ended up with a lot of direct MS consultancy for free.
Should have went with Oracle Cloud Applications instead.
