Thinking about parking up near Hornbeam Station, getting return ticket to Leeds for Grand Depart and then on return walking from Hornbeam into Harrogate centre to try to catch the finish.
So, some questions.
1. Are there road closures near Hornbeam on Fri night?
2. Is there somewhere I could park the van up to overnight in it other than on street parking?
3. Does the plan for the train seem feasable? We'd be buying the tickets in advance and heading for Leeds as early as poss.
Thanks.

Train plan is doable but they will be busy.
Northern rail have increased trains to 15 minute service Leeds to Harrogate including some longer express services, I'd still expect to queue in Leeds.

Overnighting in van may be more awkward although hornbeam has a car park which is free so you could possibly use that.

Pannal station is a little further out of town but has a long car park you could park at the far end of and kip in van, may be more secluded

No road closures in that area Friday that I know of, but plenty of extra parking restrictions all over town,

Hello hello hello.

Train is risky

As is parking up at hornbeam. You are not the only one to have that idea. not by a fair way.

For road closures see interactive map on NYCC site. The trainline to HGT is outdated and the rolling stock where old trains go to die. They are laying on extra trains, but its expected to be rammed.

Our official advice (tourism people), choose one place, plans based to see it several places risk just getting stuck and a crowd and not seeing anything.

Other stuff on the above link very useful.

Its probably worth looking into parking in Harrogate and riding to Leeds (and back) to watch both parts.

It'll be as quick as messing about with the trains and i would have thought the A61 will mostly be closed with it forming a large part of the Tdf route. (normally i'd avoid the A61 at all costs)

Most of the schools are selling parking in their grounds. Drive to the Grammar School and walk in?
