We will be in touch
Santa brought me a little dell mini notebook and i've read lots about the possibilities of running mac OS on it. Always really wanted a mac but never really wanted to stump up the minimum £800 to get one as i'd never really use it to its full potential but see this as possibly a way of trying it out and who knows if it goes well........
firstly is it worth doing?
it is easy to do (i'm really thick btw)?
what do i need?
any usefull websites to guide me through the process step by step?
if it doesn't work out can i revert back to xp?
any info greatfully received.
thanks in advance, J
I've done a Samsung NC10 and it works pretty well. I've been using it for work since March and had very few problems with it.
The main info I used started here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=137314
The only mod I had to do was to change the wifi card. It was dead easy - not sure if that's required for the Dell Mini
I already had and iMac and a Macbook, so had most of the legitimate software I would use - Office etc., but most of that is available if you look in the right places.
I ended up getting a 30 day rapid share pro account to download the slipstreamed distro, but you can get them as torrents.
I did it mainly as an experiment, bit of tinkering and it was fun. I'm confident in it enough to take away with me as my only work machine. All I would say, is read up on what you need to do and take your time and if necessary try different things. It was fun to do and its a very usable machine.
This looks like a good starting place: http://gizmodo.com/5156903/how-to-hackintosh-a-dell-mini-9-into-the-ultimate-os-x-netbook

Good luck.

Geoff,
The above is just white noise to me, sorry! 😳
Thanks for the links though, they'll come in handy and i'll give it a good read through before i jump in.
best regards, J
Which version of the Dell Mini have you got?
This is CRITICAL because some of them will run OSX with minimal or no mods whatsoever, whereas some of them will not run OSX at all, no matter what you do!

The main installation is usually done with a mucked about version of a genuine Apple install disk. A slipstreamed distro(bution) is a version of the install disk which has had the relavant extra bits added - so you just bung it in and follow the instructions.
Google Kalway OS X distro for an example.
Rapidshare is a file sharing website which some folk use to hold the installation files.
Maverickboy - i have a dell mini9
thanks again Geoff
IA to the forum, IA to the forum.
I am quite the geek but I got tired of having to tinker with the machine all the time just to do some of the Apple updates. I love OS X and I have a MB Pro and dual boot in Win 7/OS X on a hackintosh. The MBPro is a bit set and forget kind of deal the hackintosh not so much. It hasn't been updated since 10.5.4 only cause it is too fiddly to do. There are things that might not work and generally not a good idea if it is your main / work system I don't think.
Your dell 9 will run osx but you need to be careful when the os updates.
Try this site

Written on my dell 10v running snow leopard.
cheers boab 😉
As posted by englishbob, www.mydellmini.com will have all the info you need. I'm running Snow Leopard on a 10v, also installed the bluetooth module and upgraded to 2GB ram (not for the faint hearted!) and it's rock solid.
i have a dell mini9
You lucky boy!
Reputedly, the Mini 9 is the easiest of all the Netbooks to get running OSX successfully. I understand you can even install a proper retail version of OSX (rather than a hacked distro with bits added to it) for proper simplicity, and worry free updates etc. In essence, what you have with a Mini 9 running an official copy of OSX is as good as close to an Apple Machine running OSX as you can get. Which can only be a good thing!
Where did you get the Mini 9 from anyway? They stopped making them ages ago or so I thought...
PC World were doing the for £149, out of stock now though. The mini 9 has a good useable trackpad unlike the 10v but I'm using a magic mouse with it now anyway.
Just noticed PC World have re-furbed mini 9's in stock for £194.97
PC world have them in-store, £149

Really? I thought 10.6.2 had broken Intel Atom support?
If you follow any of the good guides it's not that tricky to do.
Once you get it running nicely, just dont run any of the updates unless they fix or implement something that is essential for you to have. I've had a few different netbooks that I've hackintoshed, and to be honest the first one (acer aspire one) which has been left on 10.5.6 and not updated is still running perfectly. All the ones I've faffed with and updated have been rebuilt a couple of times (or restored from backup).
As a side note - here's a link to use OSX on VMWare on a PC
Some PC world stores still have them in stock but they sold out on-line on the 27th! Bargain!
Just bought one from PC World Sunderland, if you don't bother with the £150's worth of extras that you 'need' then it's a bargain
Lol, Everyones interpretation of 'need' is different! 😀
i'm a bit excited about this - would OS-X work on a fujisu siemens net book? 1 gig and 60 gig hard disk? i have leopard and snow leopard discs
would OS-X work on a fujisu siemens net book?
as long as it has an intel chip it should be fine, aye!
