I've inherited some EF and EF-S lenses but no body

Any recommendations for an EOS body to use them with?

Will I get annoyed with a mirrorless body plus an adaptor?

Nope. Why would you get annoyed? The mirrorless R series is the future for Canon.

Nothing special just a few primes and a zoom

I was more thinking about whether using them on an EOS M with an adaptor would feel rather imbalanced

I ran a lot of my EF stuff on an EOS-M. It did feel weird. From Fisheyes to a 100-400 zoom it wasn't really right.
The shutter lag was the worst aspect of it though.
Don't go for the SLR mirrorless. No point without the appropriate lenses and you can get a decent EOS5 for bugger all really secondhand.
Just saw the EF-S bit.
Maybe an EOS7D as a compromise...

I've got a Canon mirroless and one of the joys of it is that it's small and light, I use it loads more than my old DSLR for that reason alone.
I'm not sure I'd want to compromise that with an big, heavy lens.

I was going to say a 7dII would be a good shout and should be plenty available 2nd hand for not too much. It’s a good all round camera and used to be used a lot by sports togs over the 5D

As mentioned (although not personally used myself); probably using them with an M series mirrorless will be a bit unbalanced. But at the same time will also work perfectly well and for the small primes would probably be fine.

An R series mirrorless with them would work much better and would be a great combination of camera and lenses - but the R series are pretty spendy.

Are any of the lenses L series (they will have a red stripe on them, or will be grey/white if they are longer zooms)? If they are then they are great lenses and so either going for an R-series, or something like a 7D would be brilliant. If you are keen on photography and happy to spend a bit more on a body then a good combo. If they aren't, then if you are keen and would at some point get more lenses or upgrade the ones you have, then again these bodies are a good shout.

If you just want to use them for snaps etc and they aren't 'L' lenses (or even if they are to be honest) then just go with one of the lower end SLRs; will still be a brilliant camera but if you aren't going to use it too much there isn't much point in investing in an R series body or one of the higher-end SLR bodies. Lenses will always last longer than bodies so if you aren't going to use it much then my advice would be save some money now and maybe wait until a few years down the line when the R series has some lower end models that you can buy.

I'd just get a DSLR. Eos 100d is very small if you want small.

The new EOS R5 mirrorless looks excellent but upwards of 4 grand and in short supply. I’ll be waiting a few years before upgrading my antique 5D mkvi 😉

Surprisingly, the canon mirrorless stuff don’t appear to be that much lighter than a high spec DSLR. Bear in mind it will guzzle through batteries.

Go with a crop sensor DSLR (7d Mkii or cheaper. 2nd hand would be perfect) then upgrade to mirrorless later if the enthusiasm is still there.

Unless you really want to get into dslr look at the sale value on mpb and get something you really want. Recently bought a Fujifilm X100F and finding the small form and full functionality a lot more user friendly than a bag full of lenses. Obviously a very different tool though, but lovely all the same.

Yep, I've got one of those. There's a newer version now. It's brilliantly small, particularly with a pancake prime fitted. Means you're more likely to take it with you ime. If you're a wannabe pro, you'll probably want more, but for just, like, taking pictures it works really well ime.

This is my EOS-M MkII using the E lens adapter with a Sigma 10-20 lens designed for the crop sensor. See how unbalanced it looks.
The lack of anywhere to really hold the body was the problem. Fine on a tripod though.
