[#6903864]

I need to buy a car. I have no idea and little more interest in them. My budget is around 6.5k. 5 door but not an estate. Astra size is probably too big. Mini would be too small. Built in roof rails would be ideal as bikes will be on the roof for around 50% of it's journeys. Probably no more than 100 miles eaxh way on it's longest drive and round trip rush hour (there's a contridiction on terms) 5 days per week.
I've no intetest in fast things. Reliability, cheap to maintain etc. are more important.
Any ideas because left to my own devices, I'll get bored, fed up and buy something like the last one which was tell the guy at the garage how much I had to spend and he sold me a car.

Seat mii vw up! Skoda citigo. Same car has a good set of bars and racks available ok boot space for such a small car. Ive done 18k in mine and its been great averages 60mpg, cheap tax and insurance. Get one with the optional satnav stereo thingy. Mines the Seat mii sport I recommend!

Aren't they about the same size now?

I think you'll find a Skoda Fabia suits your needs, 6.5k will buy you a low milage 2010+ petrol or diesel. Get the OE roof bars add some upgrade lightbulbs for £30 and get the dealer to turn off the double click remote locking.

Second for the Honda Jazz , the 1.4 petrol is still very good on fuel circa 50-55mpg on a good run and close to 45 around town , Honda bomb proof reliability, £6k will get you a decent facelift model ex spec with all the toys ,saving £125 for a set of Areo bars from Thule , or drop the back seats and use it as a van because they are massive inside

Dacia Sandero, £5995 brand new, sorted. Take the warranty up to 7 years for £850 more, £50 on roof bars.

Can you turn off the fabia's double press to let the wife in system? I might have that done. I bloody hate it!

Oh the 1.4 diesel three cylinder engine is not too great IMO. Noisy tick over and average mpg means it's the last small diesel I'll buy. And it's got a PDF! Oh the horror.

My Golf had this, I managed to turn it off using the trip computer controls.

Depending on the model, you can turn off the double click entry thing using the MFD options. Some lower spec cars you need a tame VCDS owner to code it out.

And it's got a PDF!

Fkn Adobe get everywhere!

Fabia and Jazz I reckon are good shouts... In fact I'd probably go with a Jazz. Cool little cars...

Some to have a look at, thank you. I have no clue what the PDF etc terms are. I'll Google it. A 5 door Suzuki Swift has been mentioned by a friend. My wife has the 3 door version. She seems to like it. Any good?
