As the title says really.

Following a soon-to-arrive insurance payout I will be buying myself a nice watch. I'm after a classic style and I like the look of leather straps but the last time I had one it (and my wrist) soon started to smell like something had died. Obviously I could go for a metal bracelet but I prefer the look of leather.

Any suggestions? Is it possible that a less cheap strap (last time was a swatch) will be less affected?

A good deal of the higher end leather straps are water proof/resistant so should be less prone to absorbing sweat etc. This should help to keep it fresh smelling.

I have a Traser Commander titanium watch and it came with a Nato strap which was naff. I changed to the Traser rubber strap which is OK but really thick and grips the skin.

Looked around some watch forums and found that a company called Hirsch do natural rubber straps which are meant to be really nice.

Bought a Hirsch Accent which is lovely. Very soft and superbly made. Never thought a rubber strap could be so good.

RaveyDavey - that's reassuring. It didn't seem right that all these people with expensive watches went around with one arm stinking

I got a $50 diesel watch in US 10 years ago. I had to replace the leather strap quite a few times as it kept falling apart at £25 a pop. For my wedding I treated myself to a new watch strap, handmade by a bloke at Toshi straps. They're works of art, lifetime guarantee and feel really solidly made. Might be an option if you find a watch you like without a leather strap!
