Don't you just hate that when an old favourite gets commercialised?
Or am I being an old snob?
Yes I hate it too. Gang of Four advertising Microsoft was quite painful for me 😥
I guess that`s punk from the 70s ? not heard it before !!, I was a headbanger in those days
I don't mind, tbh.
About time they got a decent payday.
When Gareth Gates assumed he had license to do anything he wanted during his 15 mins of fame, his greatest crime was covering The Long and Winding Road ..... I am still scarred.
I think your link is broken - I didn't hear a great song.
As if Shelley and Diggle have never shopped in Sainsbury's...
I think your link is broken - I didn't hear a great song. You really need the two note guitar solo for full effect
A great song and particularly apt for STW ers:
Yeah - well - I say what I mean
I say what comes to my mind
I never get around to things
I live a straight - straight line
You know me - I'm acting dumb
you know the scene - very humdrum
boredom - boredom
I'm living in this movie
but it doesn't move me
I'm the man that's waiting for the phone to ring
Hear it ring-a-ding-a-f***ing-ding
You know me ...
You see there's nothing behind me
I'm already a has-been
my future ain't what it was
well I think I know the words that I mean
You know me ...
B'dum - b'dum
I've taken this extravagant journey
so it seems to me
I just came from nowhere
and I'm going straight back there
You know me ...
So I'm living in this movie
but it doesn't move me
so tell me who are you trying to arouse?
get your hands out of my trousers
You know me
"Thou shalt not stop liking a band just because they've become popular "
Not quite the same that nick...
You're being a snob.
Any excuse - skip the LLB ad and apologies for Mr Saville:
EDIT: Lawrence L Bowen no longer appears thank the lubber
Not my favourite Buzzcocks song, but I'm sure that the lads are more than happy to get the royalty checks through the post.
"Thou shalt not stop liking a band just because they've become popular "
Not appropriate in this case.
Thats a good tune?!
Christ the 70's did produce some rough old tat..
(I probably listened to quite a lot of it... 😳 )
Saw them a couple of years ago in Aylesbury, Diggle didn't look any different than in that Saville video, pretty good they were too - although supported by Eddie and the Hotrods, and they were brill.
I know it's not quite the same, but it's the same sentiment. It's like Intro by the XX, remember hearing it, and loving it, and then before you know it, everybody and their wife is using for their ad, for their TV promo...it was freaking everywhere.
Still an ace tune.
Same thing here, just 'cos it's on a ad don't make any difference.
- although supported by Eddie and the Hotrods, and they were brill.
Jeez I feel old - I saw them circa '77 in Aberdeen 😯
Woody, saw them at the capital in 78 (Subway Sect were support). My first gig, it was ace! Buzzcocks were MY band for a long time... 😀
I have no problem with them using for an advert after all Peter has kind of blown by being a bloater these days... (joking!). Well, I've not a tv so won't see it anyways.
Spiral Scratch was such a seminal single and set the path for many's a band to copy (with £300 borrowed from Petes dad or grannie or something!).
Punk rock is still punk rock. But, **** me, it's A long time since 77 so really, who cares. I mean really.
Jeez I feel old - I saw them circa '77 in Aberdeen
It's ok I'm old too, although not old enough to remember when it was the 'real' Eddie 🙂
You're being a snob.

Aimed at me?
If so yes, totally. Fail to see it as an insult when it comes to music. quite the opposite, in fact.
metalheart
78 it must have been - it was a looong time ago. Same year as The Stranglers at Ruffles. Still the most memorable gig I've ever been to!
Woody: I was too young to get into Ruffles for the stranglers.
Managed to 'sneak' in @16 to see Killing Joke though (always looked older than my mates, not something that seems so good now though!) which was memorable for all the wrong reasons (still feel queasy sometimes when I smell cider... 😳 )

A mate of my daughters is a lovely bloke, apart from his musical snobbishness.
He thinks people find it somehow endearing and amusing.
In reality, he's a complete knob who has alienated his friends, made his wife cry at their wedding, (by insisting that she couldn't play her favourite music because he found it somehow below him) and makes me want to punch his patronising, smug little face.
Musical snobbishness is nothing but ignorance, selfishness and prejudice.
It's not an attractive trait. 🙂
Shame, you seem like a nice fella otherwise 😀
Nah, not me mate 😉
😀
I used to be awful. Seriously bad, not as extreme as some, but a right little know it all.
Shame, but at least I'm enjoying the previously 'uncool' stuff now 🙂
Have a vid:
