Following on from this thread http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/nas-recommendations

If I was to buy one of the Synology enclosures (or similar) and bunged 2 disks in it could I see them as separate volumes (disks in OS X)?

And if so, could I use 1 for time machine and 1 as a simple file server?

Ta

I'm guessing it will depend on how you format the drives. If you make them part of the same RAID set then they will be a single volume across two drives but if you format them as seperate drives then they should be visible as seperate drives.

You may find it easier to format them as a single volume across both drives and then use the user quota function to limit how much space your time machine can use from the disks. That's how I have mine setup and it works a treat.

Find a NAS which supports NFS - works wonders with OSX.

Another tick for synology

Makes sense
