My (original) Moto G just informed me that it has a system update to Lollipop waiting... earing in mind what Lollipop did to my Nexus 7 I'm wondering whether safe to do so!

Anyone installed it yet?!

I updated my Moto G (1st gen) to Lollipop yesterday morning. Still seems perfectly usable, just the UI is a little different.

2nd green here. Updated a couple of days ago and it's been fine.
Saying that, I only got it a couple of days ago and hadn't put my sim card in by the time I installed the update.

My 2nd gen upgraded a few weeks ago.

It seems to be getting unresponsive now, gradually getting worse. Might be that there's a memory leak in an app I've got installed so will try a factory reset and try to eliminate them one by one.

Hope its not lollipop related.

Can I force an OS update on my Samsung S3? I've not had any update notifications sent down for ages. Is there a simple way to do it?

i use the calendar function a lot at work on the current version I can view a month at a time and see what volume of work I have on any given day and what my wife has on in a different colour. the new loiipop one has a much less (my) business friendly month view just putting a circle round dates with any entry of any nature.

Is it 5.0.1? Wait until 5.0.2 version

Did mine the other day, no problems but OTOH no particularly compelling new functionality I can see either. The main difference I've noticed is no power toggling widget any more 🙁

That said I guess it's generally better to be up to date, my previous phone was only on 2.2.2 and it really started to suffer as apps got updated.

I updated my 2nd gen motog and it takes much longer to open apps and emails etc. Any suggestions anyone? Presume a factory reset will wipe all my (900+!) Work contacts?

did my second-gen a couple of weeks ago (with fingers crossed after reading all the issues), it went straight to 5.0.2. Battery life seems shorter (one of the reported issues) and I've heard that a factory reset sorts any issues from the update but its not impactive enough for me to have bothered (Im not a "power user").

On balance I'd wait til 5.0.3 or above is rolled out.

As it's an adroid, your contacts should be synced with google if you;ve linked your phone to your google account. If you;ve installed any apps, it's linked to google. If you do a factory reset, they will be resynced from google back to your phone

MotoG 4G here, still no update

Think I'll be giving it a miss. don't use many apps and I'm quite happy with the way everything works at the moment.

Lollipop made a real mess of my Nexus 4. Buggiest Android release ever? Have a read on the web about the various bugs before taking the plunge.

Wish I had stuck with kitkat. The worst bug is that the phone app doesn't work after a certain period - so my phone's now just a mini-tablet until I reboot it!

Been fine on my 2nd gen, very slick in fact. Was only a week between buying it though and the update coming through. Not seen any slow downs yet and the battery life is still really good. I have turned off the stupid merge tabs with apps option in chrome though as its so so slow.

I noticed that too. Shame because I used that quite a bit. First gen 3G, installed yesterday and no issues yet.

Hmm, google play services is repeatedly saying something needs updating, but doesn't specify what (its commented on in the play catalog too by others). An extra reboot seems to have got some other apps e.g. VLC back into action.

the new chrome merge tabs is so annoying it'll have to go too!

Htc one m8 here

The update is rubbish

Uses more battery, has annoying pop up notifications at the top of the screen which makes other things unusable until they disappear

I quite like it. The way chrome tabs work is good.

BTW iya google services that needs to update I'd to log in to something first before that went away. Canny mind what.

I like the notifications
